Dear Friends,

Greetings from VIBGYOR Collective and welcome to the 6th Edition of ViBGYORInternational Film Festival for short and documentary films at Thrissur,Kerala, from January 12-16 to beheld in the Sangeet Nataka Academy Campus! This Edition is dedicated to thememory of late C.Saratchandran, ourfriend, filmmaker and media activist, who apart from having produced manylandmark political documentary films, has been championing the Touring FilmFestival movement, `Nottam’ in Kerala and elsewhere. He was also the co-founderof the ViBGYOR Film Festival. In this context, we have chosen `Political Filmmaking and Media Activism in South Asia' as the special focustheme for ViBGYOR-2011. Anand Patwardhan has agreed to be the Festival Directorfor this 6th Edition.

This Homage Festival is special for all of us…andfor Sarat! This is our first attempt to reach out to all friends of Sarat andinvite all of you personally for the 5-day Festival. Please mark yourcalendars, January 12-16, and alsoplease circulate this info in your e-groups and blogs, so that everyone whowould want to attend this festival get this invite and information well inadvance. The uniqueness of ViBGYOR is that it is not afilm festival with screening of a set of films for elite urban audiences, butis a meeting space for people's movements, filmmakers, and students fromdifferent campuses in Kerala and outside and also ordinary people fromdifferent panchayats in Thrissur District. At the annual festival venue, apartfrom the screening of around 100 short and documentary films from across theglobe, we are planning a South Asia Conference / Sarat memorial Lecture on theFocus Theme, Mini Conferences on relevant topics, Campaigns, Workshops foryoung people, Cultural Night, a Farm & Food Fair and a Media Exhibition.

Various networks and groups, representingIndigenous People, Dalits, Youth, South Asian Relations, Human Rights, Environmentand Development, Women’s Issues, Globalization, Labor, Culture and Media etc.at National and South Asian level have always actively participated at theVIBGYOR Festivals. We hope to strengthen such collaboration during theforthcoming festival.
