BLIND (2013), A Review.
Actor Sunil Sadarangani Shot in the historic French Mediterranean city of Marseille, BLIND is a story that gives visual meaning to the term ‘the blind leading the blind’. A young male foreigner from India (Sunil Sadarangani) who lives in Los Angeles is lost in the labyrinth of the Marseilles Metro and a local blind man (Michel Panier) offers to show him the way out. The blind man and the lost youth hold onto each other as they both blindly seek their way through the seemingly endless maze of the Marseilles underground, a scene reminiscent of the Greek myth of the Knossos labyrinth with the blind man a Daedalus leading the young Theseus out of the city’s bowels away from the monstrous Minotaur and back to the light. In an illuminatingly written story by actor/writer/producer Sunil Sadarangani and writer/director Thibault Guerin, we are taken to the unexplored dark depths of the Marseilles underground, as if we as viewers are blinded to the city itself. During their walk the two men bond as they talk about life, music and travel. In a short time they form a touching and unlikely friendship. When the young man is led to the correct train and must say goodbye to his new sightless friend and guide, there is a sense that he is more lost than before having to depart from his new friend who, he learned, has more sight than most of those who see and more light in his soul in the bowels of the Marseilles underground than those living outside in the bright Mediterranean city above.

When I asked actor Sunil Sadarangani (‘Young Man’) about working with French director Thibault Guerin, here is what he had to say: SUNIL: I have been very fortunate to have Thibault as the Director and Editor of Blind. He also co-wrote, co-produced Blind along with me. After my encounter with the blind man, I immediately messaged Thibault and told him 'I’ve got a story for the film.' I have known Thibault for a few years and had seen his body of work. I knew he would be the right director for this film. He is a true team player and worked with me for three months from inception to final post-production. Thibault is a visionary. He is very clear about what he wants as a director. He is always two steps ahead. As an editor he has great timing and is one of the best visual effects artists in Marseille. He has a subtle sense of humor, which reflects in his writing. I think we will work on many projects in the future as there is an unspoken understanding between us of the level of output we want to achieve in the film-making process.
