TINSEL & TINE

Tinsel & Tine (Reel & Dine) is about discovering what I find pleasing in Film & Food -  My post/commentary are from the perspective of someone who truly reveres good storytelling, and possesses a voracious appetite.

Although I also write about my dining experiences and food events, the blog is primarily film-centric. My writing style weaves together personal anecdotes and observations in conjunction with film reviews, reporting from film festivals and preview film screenings. Not to mention, whenever possible, highlighting the simpatico of food in film!

Tinsel & Tine encourages blog contributors. Please send
your film festival experiences - from big and small film festivals - pictures, short reviews, long reviews, food & film tie-ins, report on the celebrities, the atmosphere etc... Feel free to share your festival coverage during or after the festival.  (Blogging credit only compensation).

La Cinematheque in Philadelphia

Ooh la la, PCA ushers in 4 more French Films under the programming begun this past fall called, La Cinematheque (click link to see trailer of each film). Delayed a week due to snow, next Thursday, February 25, 6:45pm, Prince Music Theater (1412 Chestnut Street) the series starts off with Les Boreaux De Dieu (God’s Office), directed by Claire Simon - An “auteur” filmmaker captures women talking candidly about sex, pregnancy and abortion.

Ray Murray, Artistic Director:
“Thanks to the Embassy of France's leadership, expertise,
and access to French cinema’s luminaries,
Philadelphia audiences will continue to be among the first
in the nation to experience these new entertaining titles.”
Murray added, “We’re particularly excited to be hosting, in our city, some of the principals associated with the films premiering, beginning in February and continuing throughout 2010.”

Tinsel & Tine is always pleased to find a food and film tie-in:
This season ticket buyers who purchase series tickets will be
automatically eligible to win restaurant gift certificates from French
restaurants in the city and the region.

Ticket Prices: $10 for a single ticket/$32 for the series (discounts offered to PCA/Prince and Bryn Mawr Film Institute Members) PCA members receive two free tickets (click HERE to reserve tickets at Will Call) to Les Boreaux De Dieu (God’s Office) and pay $18 for the series of 3 remaining films.

Ricky (March 11th) directed by Francois Ozon - a lyrical and daring” film about an ordinary man and woman who give birth to a most extraordinary son.

Les Grandes Chaleur (Heat Wave) (April 8th) from Canada, directed by Sophie Lorain - a love story with twists and turns between a recent widow and a young incurable kleptomaniac.

Welcome (May 13th) directed by Phillippe Lioretis - a story of compassion between a French swimming instructor and Kurdish teenage refugee boy seeking a new life.

Check back for Tinsel & Tine film commentary on these screenings.
