![]() An Ode to Italian Silent Film Love Among the Ruins Selected to 39th Montreal World Film Festival
The charming Italian faux documentary Love Among the Ruins (Amore tra le rovine) will screen among official selections at the Montreal World Film Festival on Saturday, August 29 and Sunday, August 30.
Following its European premiere at Valdarno Cinema Fedic Festival and North American premiere at the Seattle International Film Festival, this enchanting mock-doc drama continues to delight festival audiences with its blend of earnest tutorial on film restoration and playful re-enactment of a “long-lost” WWI-era silent romance.
“Montreal is a wonderful fit for our film,” say Richard Meyer and Susan Harmon of Meyerhar Productions. “The cultural richness and appreciation of film history infused into Massimo Ali Mohammad’s first feature are sure to resonate with discerning audiences at MWFF.”
Featuring commentary from film preservationist Serge Bromberg, composer Donald Sosin, and professor of film studies Richard Meyer, Love Among the Ruins warms the audience’s heart to silent cinema of a bygone age, then thrills with a faithfully constructed wartime romance filmed in era-appropriate black and white and aged through superimposition of actual defects scanned from 8mm films of that time period.
The Italian cast of Mary Di Tommaso, Edoardo Siravo, Massimo Malucelli, Stefano Muroni, and Filippo Parma undertake their challenge of double roles with gusto, portraying actors of the 1920s who, in turn, play classic personas in the film within a film – yet their passion for the project shines through as each character comes to life on screen.
Filmed in Ferrara, Italy – a UNESCO World Heritage Site renowned for its authentic and well-preserved Renaissance form and design – Love Among the Ruins showcases the beauties of that historic city both today and as it was in the early 20th Century.
Love Among the Ruins is the first feature narrative film by director Massimo Ali Mohammad, best known for his documentary Mignon (2013) and short film La nonna (2008). Meyerhar Productions is seeking distribution for the film in all regions.

Love Among the Ruins is Meyerhar Productions’s first feature film, written and directed by Massimo Ali Mohammad, a native of Naples and resident of Ferrara, Italy. Meyerhar Productions is based in Seattle, WA. 25.08.2015 | The Montreal World Film Festival's blog Cat. : FILM
