Magniolia Pictures picked worldwide rights forThe Wolfpack
Park City, UT (January 29, 2014) - Magnolia Pictures announced today that it has acquired worldwide rights for Crystal Moselle's critically-acclaimed documentary THE WOLFPACK, one of the most discussed films at the Sundance 2015. THE WOLFPACK is a fascinating portrait of six extraordinary teenagers who lived their formative lives in solitude in their apartment in New York, but obsessively watched and recreated movies to connect to the outside world.
The film was produced by Moselle, Kotva Fims' Izabella Tzenkova, Verisimilitude's Hunter Gray and Alex Orlovsky and Associate Producers Megan Delaney and Trace Henderson. It was edited by Emmy award-winning Enat Sidi; music composed by Saunder Juriaans and Danny Bensi with Aska Matsumiya. David Cross, Tyler Brodie, Louise Ingalls Sturges and Cameron Brodie served as Executive producers.
Christina Rogers will be handling international sales for Magnolia at the European Film Market next month.
The six Angulo brothers have spent their entire lives locked away from society in an apartment on the Lower East Side of Manhattan. Nicknamed "the Wolfpack," they're all exceedingly bright, are homeschooled, have no acquaintances outside their family and have practically never left their home. All they know of the outside world is gleaned from the films they watch obsessively and recreate meticulously, using elaborate homemade props and costumes. For years this has served as a productive creative outlet and a way to stave off loneliness - but after one of the brothers escapes the apartment (wearing a Michael Meyers mask for protection), the power dynamics in the house are transformed, and all the boys begin to dream of venturing out.
The deal was negotiated by Dori Begley, SVP of Acquisitions and John Von Thaden, Director of Acquisitions of Magnolia Pictures with Josh Braun, David Koh and Dan Braun of Submarine on behalf of the filmmakers.
Said Magnolia President Eamonn Bowles: "THE WOLFPACK is an artfully crafted, utterly unique and profound film about insuppressible creativity and intellectual curiosity. It's also a jaw-dropper. Crystal Moselle has done a remarkable job and we are thrilled to be a part of the Angulo brothers' incredible story."
Says director Crystal Moselle, " "We are thrilled to be working with Magnolia. The Angulo brothers' passion for film is a perfect fit with Magnolia's sensibility and devotion to a diverse roster of documentary, arthouse and foreign cinema. We could not have imagined a better company to take on The Wolfpack." 04.02.2015 | Sundance's blog Cat. : FILM
