Singapore South Asian International Film Festival (Sg.SAIFF) will be held from 1st to 9th September 2017 at various venues. This is the festival’s première edition. It will have three main sections: Features, shorts, documentary.

Entry procedure and fees are listed below.

Short Films

Early Bird Entry Fee: 15 SGD

Regular Entry Fee: 15 SGD

Late Deadline Fee: 30 SGD

Feature Films

Singapore South Asian International Film Festival (Sg.SAIFF) showcases a combination of feature films, short films and documentaries under two sections - Competition (wherein titles from South Asia will compete for an award) and Showcase (wherein the best of South East Asian cinema will be screened). Additionally, the festival will also offer a unique opportunity to learn about acting, filmmaking and screenwriting along with knowledge sessions like panel discussions, master classes and other business networking sessions. The festival will conclude with a cultural program including some exciting stage performances, awards and music.

A vibrant week-long festival, it is packed with the best of Independent cinema from the South Asia as well as a chance to meet global celebrities from the region. The programme is carefully curated from the hundreds of films produced in the last 18 months, and will showcase highly anticipated titles from leading auteurs to discovering fresh voices in the cinematic space. Sg.SAIFF will be the leading platform globally for South Asian cinema and for industry players to meet and exchange ideas and give shape to new film projects.

Workshops from Masters: Acting | film making| Writing

The festival organises three important sidebars which provide an opportunity to budding film talent to hone their skills in Directing, Writing and Acting. The daylong master-classes will be conducted by leading practitioners in their respective fields and offer a once in a lifetime opportunity to learn from the masters.

Master-class:

In their debut year they are bringing to the platform a very illustrious personality who has not only given a fine contribution to Indian cinema but is considered one of the pillars on which the alternative route to mainstream cinema stands.

Master classes Throughout the Year:

The organisers are also bringing three more master classes post-festival. Eminent celebrities would be giving master classes and it would be held at different places in the South Asian region. So stay tuned to this space for more information!

Panel Discussion:

The intellectual stimulus of watching the best of South Asian Cinema will be complimented with invigorating panel discussion with film stalwarts. A meeting ground where film professionals and cineastes can exchange ideas and deepen their appreciation of their cinema.

Performances

Singapore South Asian International Film Festival (Sg.SAIFF) will present a series of performing arts events which will provide wholesome entertainment and a unique perspective on the role of other art forms in Cinema. Performing arts have always been an integral part of their Cinema and the festival strives to program events which explore how dance, theatre, music, literature and design complement and enhance The Seventh Art.

Syed Siraj
(Siraj Associates)

Siraj Syed is a film-critic since 1970 and a Former President of the Freelance Film Journalists' Combine of India.

He is the India Correspondent of FilmFestivals.com and a member of FIPRESCI, the international Federation of Film Critics, Munich, Germany

Siraj Syed has contributed over 1,015 articles on cinema, international film festivals, conventions, exhibitions, etc., most recently, at IFFI (Goa), MIFF (Mumbai), MFF/MAMI (Mumbai) and CommunicAsia (Singapore). He often edits film festival daily bulletins.

He is also an actor and a dubbing artiste. Further, he has been teaching media, acting and dubbing at over 30 institutes in India and Singapore, since 1984.
