Overview of the US business for the week of January 25th

Open Road's The Marksman starring Liam Neeson maintained its perch at the top of the box office for a second week in a row, bringing in $2M in weekend ticket sales and $6.1M after 10 days. Universal's The Croods: A New Age continues its impressive run in attracting a family audience to theatres.  It earned $1.8M in its 9th weekend and a total of $41.8M to-date.   Warner Bros.' Wonder Woman 1984 starring Gal Gadot earned $1.6M in its 5th week, now with a cume of $37.7M.

Click to play our Box Office Buzz video feature, highlighting Daniel Craig in his final performance as James Bond in MGM/Universal/Eon Productions' upcoming No Time to Die...now opening 10/8...plus, a look back at his last three 007 hits Quantum of Solace (2008), Skyfall (2012) and Spectre (2015).

Our Industry News Summary looks at the implications of last week's blizzard of studio release changes, led by No Time to Die pushing from April to October. The Cannes Film Festival is also entertaining a date change for this year's event, shifting from its traditional May dates back to July in order to allow a few more months for the vaccine and overall improvements in the public health situation to take hold. We spotlight an inspiring story of a Stone Theatres location in North Carolina partnering with a local health provider to host a COVID-19 vaccination clinic at the cinema.  We also include a profile from the New York Times of AMC's CEO Adam Aron, on a mission to save the world's largest exhibitor from bankruptcy in the face of the financial calamity that the pandemic has wrought on the industry.

In the Hollywood Report, Martin Grove reviews the leading candidates for Best Director at the 2021 Oscars.

We conclude with our regular film data tables. The Studio Release Calendar provides details on film releases through mid-March, followed by a list of the most recent studio release changes, MPAA film ratings announcements and the most important new trailers released last week.
