Savage Cinema has taken its first steps at this 61st edition with six adventure and action sports films well received by the Festival audience and sports enthusiasts.

And there´s still another night to go: BIG FRIDAY, a not-to-be-missed get-together with some of the world´s most spectacular mountains in the Velodrome for which we enjoy the support of the Mendi Film Festival. A double session attended by the film directors and stars for a majestic premiere on a giant screen of Cerro Torre - A Snowball´s Chance in Hell and Into the Mind.

To present the Cerro Torre premiere, the Austrian sport climber and mountaineer brought a touch of excitement by providing one of the edition´s most spectacular images on climbing the wall of the K1 building in only a few minutes. The feat had onlookers and the media holding their breath until David made it all up there to the Festival summit!

Cerro Torre - A Snowball's Chance in Hell

Thomas Dirnhofer (Austria)

World premiere with the presence of David Lama and Thomas Dirnhofer

Set against the backdrop of breathtaking Patagonia, David Lama, climbings wunderkind, sets out to climb the infamous south-east face of Cerro Torre, a mountain once said to be the most difficult in the world. No one has ever climbed this Needle of Granite in free-climbing style. But this is exactly what David and his partner Peter aim to do. After being confronted with natural and logistical challenges, David comes to understand the true nature of his project and realises what it will take to reach the summit. A documentary about mountaineering, friendship and transformation. Its a coming of age story that also takes a close look at the state of rock climbing and alpinism, as well as their many philosophies and ethical approaches.

Into the Mind (Into the Mind)

Eric Crosland, Dave Mossop (Canada)

World premiere

From the creators of the award winning film All.I.Can, Sherpas Cinema is proud to present their newest feature film, Into The Mind. With stunning cinematography and groundbreaking storytell- ing techniques, the film blur the lines between dream state and reality, and immerse you into the mind of a common skier as he attempts to climb and ski the ultimate mountain. Innovative athlete segments are actually a glimpse into his dreamscape, each one harboring messages that help inform our heros current, real-life choices. As you experience the majesty of Alaska, Bolivia, the Himalaya and beyond, Into the Mind paints a philosophical portrait of human kind. How do we balance risk versus reward? Why are we inspired to rise to the challenges in our lives and what do we learn on this journey to attain them?
