My Films Are Independent

The Swedish blockbuster film director Lukas Moodysoon reveals, on Sarajevo Film Festival why he is so different, from the image that other people normally have of him. Moodyson also make films, that no one expect of him. Such as case with his new film „Mammoth, shown on Sarajevo Film Festival two nights ago. This film, his first film on English, starring with Gael Garcia Bernal, talks about relationship of one couple that neglects their child. The 8 years old Jackie spends most of the time with her nanny Gloria. But then the father of child, travels on business to Thailand and sets off  events that will have dramatic consequences on his life.

At the Coffee With Program Moodyson explained „I don’t think much of the reason why I changed the direction in my filmography, the world is complicated enough for me to work on one kind of films only. To me it is insufficient. And this is why my work seems odd, somewhat alian to me. I never had intention  to make movies for large audience and the fact that I had several comedy blockbusters in Sweeden still remains odd to me. The screening of the Open Air Cinema has been a surprise to me as well. It was pleasing to see such a large number of people receive the film so well. Whenever I make the film, I have a feeling that only a limited audience will accept it. I do not think about the interpretation of his films, adding that analyses of their content bound to crop up after the screeening, ones he had not even thought of when making the films. But that does not burden me.I simply decided to allow my films to have a personal life of their own. Without any burden and influencs of mine. This is something similar to a relationship with children who are coming of age. You need to have faith in them, wish them luch, not stifle them and allow them to take the path predestined for them. Moodyson is a scriptwriter of “Mammoth”, and he did 27 draft versions before the right one. “I enjoy writing. When I come home from Sarajevo I will continue to write. I love to explore things unknown to me by writing extensively. There are things in my life I am certain of but I do not make films about them because I can learn and discover nothing through that process. The moment I received the invitation I knew that I wanted to come. Because of this city’s history and because of everything I have heard about this festival. So far, I can only say I have not had a single regret for coming.”
