Coffee With...Stellan Skarsgard

Katrin Cartridge Foundation on Sarajevo Film Festival, awarded young film director and producer Juanita Wilson with Katrin Cartlidge Fondation Scholarship, handed over by Swedish actor with an international career Stellan Skarsgard, for her film „The Door“ that features great Chernobyl tragedy in Russia.  Talking about Katrin Cartlidge Foundation Stellan explained the decision to award the Foundation scholarship to Juanita Wilson for the film „The Door“. “I saw her film couple of months ago when I was appointed this year’s curator. I was immediately thrilled with it. What I saw was simply beautiful, because Juanita allows people’s faces to dominate the screen. Faces with expressions. When I watched other films, I still kept thinking of hers. That is why giving her the award was easy. "

We, the press, talked about Katrin Cartlidge actress recently passed away and to tell you this, communicating with Stellan was incredibly easy and entertaining. „I simply love acting. I was never educated to be an actor. I was unable to enter the Swedish Academy. I peeped into plays, stole from various actors and now it is difficult for me to tell what I have learnt from whom. I even wanted to be a diplomat but I think that they would have fired me quickly for my big mouth. I have been acting since I was seven, professionally since I was 16. Perhaps when I grow up I might become a diplomat after all. There is always hope.“    Most of people were interested about his frequent cooperation with director Lars Von Trier.

"Von Trier is sensitive , vulnerable and above all, a fun director. I know that he has a reputation of a complicated director but this is not the most important form. We have a special relationship which is best described by this claim that when we claim, when he calls the actor to work with him on film, he is in fact inviting them to participate in a big film feast." Also known for acting  in international Hollywood and independent cinematography he manages well in all. „I want to do different things. That is how I rest from previous projects by taking new, completely different ones. After working in blockbusters and Hollywood you certainly need a break, because such projects are primarily about industry and money. The more money, the less freedom you have, but it also happens that you play a role such as in Mama Mia, I had never done musical before and that is why I accepted the role. That was fun, especially when I realized that the aim of the female cast was to call three men who couldn’t sing, in order to humiliate us. “Skarsgard said.   “Film is great fun if you take it that way. The only thing that makes me sad, when talking about industry is that the art film always loses the battle because of it. “Godfather” used to open in 150 cinemas in the USA. Today, we have premiers in 4000cinemas. A film has to earn money in the first week. The time when a film had 150 to 200 screenings each making the film bigger and a part of the film history, is long gone. Because of those past days I would not like to see art loosing the battle with industry. We can only agree with his words, because it is exactly this film magic I am talking about and what brought me to Sarajevo. “
