Mirren & Hackford for SOME LIKE IT HOT on AFIMovieClub

by Quendrith Johnson, Los Angeles Correspondent

They’re beloved and lovable, married and not so harried during the Coronavirus lockdown? That’s right, you guessed it: Dame Helen Mirren and Mr. Taylor Hackford. Now they're here to give you the download on the downlow for AFIMovieClub’s film, SOME LIKE IT HOT.SomeLikeItHot Everything you already know about SOME LIKE IT HOT will be made even better by the (possibly, arguably, sincerely, greatest living) actress and her producer husband, who is not so shabby either. In fact, he kind of won an Oscar and nominated makes two. Watch now as you get Billy Wilder’s tour de force (of nature) explained as never before by the Elder Babe and Taylor Hackford for AFI’s quarantine gift for the duration of your WFH (work from home) and personal house arrest…

WHEN: Thursday, April 2, 2020

WHAT: Helen Mirren and Taylor Hackford announce today’s AFI Movie Club selection: SOME LIKE IT HOT. The film features two AFI Life Achievement Award recipients – director Billy Wilder and star Jack Lemmon.

SOME LIKE IT HOT also appears on four of AFI’s lists of the greatest America films – most notably ranked #1 on the AFI’s 100 YEARS…100 LAUGHS, which chronicles the funniest films ever to grace the silver screen.

DID YOU KNOW? Director Billy Wilder first approached Frank Sinatra and Anthony Perkins to co-star before landing on the iconic pairing of Jack Lemmon and Tony Curtis. View exclusive AFI Archive clips of Jack Lemmon and Tony Curtis talking about making the film.

All Like It AFI Movie Club

AFI Movie Club is a newly launched free program to raise the nation’s spirits by bringing artists and audiences together – even while we are apart. AFI will shine a spotlight on an iconic movie each day, with special guests announcing select AFI Movies of the Day in short videos posted on AFI.com and social media platforms. Audiences can “gather” at AFI.com/MovieClub to find out how to watch the featured movie of the day with the use of their preexisting streaming service credentials. The daily film selections will be supported by fun facts, family discussion points and exclusive material from the AFI Archive to enrich the viewing experience. Audiences can continue the conversation online using the hashtag #AFIMovieClub. Learn more at AFI.com and follow us on social media at Facebook.com/AmericanFilmInstitute,  youtube.com/AFItwitter.com/AmericanFilm and Instagram.com/AmericanFilmInstitute.

Incidentally, Marilyn is pouting somewhere as her “fragile” state is discussed. And as the Pillow-white-haired wonder used to say: “boo-boo-bee-do.” Fudge to the haters, ps. ;)
