The Palm Springs International Film Festival plays host to a fabulous array of movies and movie stars. The Festival features a stellar line-up of more than 175 films from 60 countries, special events and gala receptions. 

The Palm Springs International Festival of Short Films has become known world-wide for the extraordinary community of filmmakers it attracts, and for the quality and scope of its programming. This celebrated event is the largest festival of its kind in America, showcasing over 320 short films each year from more than 40 countries, with a library of more than 2700 films available to film buyers, industry and press in the Film Market running concurrently with the Festival.


VIDEO: Palm Springs International Film Awards kicks off awards season

Tonight, the Palm Springs International Film Awards welcomed the stars to the desert, kicking off awards season by honoring the year’s most buzzed about films and performances. The event was presented by American Express and sponsored by Entertainment Tonight and IHG Hotels & Resorts. The event welcomed first time co-hosts - Entertainment Tonight’s Kevin Frazier and Nischelle Turner. Honorees were presented with either the John Kennedy "The Entertainer" statue or a Chihuly Glass Sculpture. 


The following awards were presented –

  • Cate Blanchett (Desert Palm Achievement Award, Actress) presented by Jamie Lee Curtis
  • Austin Butler (Breakthrough Performance Award, Actor) presented by Baz Luhrmann
  • Viola Davis (Chairman’s Award for acting and producing) presented by Cate Blanchett
  • Danielle Deadwyler (Breakthrough Performance Award, Actress) presented by Brian Tyree Henry
  • Colin Farrell (Desert Palm Achievement Award, Actor) presented by Sam Rockwell
  • Brendan Fraser (Spotlight Award) presented by Hong Chau
  • Bill Nighy (International Star Award, Actor) presented by Kazuo Ishiguro
  • Sarah Polley (Director of the Year Award) presented by Eric Idle
  • Michelle Yeoh (International Star Award, Actress) presented by Stephanie Hsu
  • The Fabelmans - director Steven Spielberg, producer Kristie Macosko Krieger and cast members Michelle Williams, Paul Dano, Seth Rogen, Gabriel LaBelle, Judd Hirsch, Julia Butters, Sam Rechner, and Keeley Karsten (Vanguard Award) presented by Sally Field
