Call for Entries for the Dan Eldon Activist Award

The MY HERO International Short Film Festival is accepting submissions for the 2011 Dan Eldon Activist Award.  Eldon, an artist and activist, was a hero in the truest sense; a photojournalist whose passion was to shed light on stories that needed to be told.  In 1993, 22-year-old Eldon was killed by an angry mob while covering the conflict in Somalia.  To honor Eldon's memory and his life's work, the MY HERO International Short Film Festival will present the Dan Eldon Activist Award to the short film that best addresses the theme of "activism."

Dan Eldon's mother, will present the award at the Screening and Award Ceremony, which takes place December 3rd at the University of Southern California's School of Cinematic Arts.  Kathy Eldon is a journalist, author and humanitarian who has channeled her grief and energy into the Creative Visions Foundation, which helps artists, writers and filmmakers use their artistic disciplines as vehicles of social change.

The festival is part of The MY HERO Project, a non-profit 501(c)3 organization that celebrates the best of humanity through its website (www.myhero.com).  The web site is used by millions of students and teachers around the world.  Winning films can be viewed online at www.myhero.com/winners.

Last year's Eldon Award winner was Pedal = Sight, by Jacob & Isaac Seigel-Boettner.  Pedal=Sight is the story of a young woman, Bharati, whose life was transformed by the simple gift of a bicycle, which allowed her to commute to high school.

The deadline for entries is October 1, 2011.  For more information on the Dan Eldon Activist Award, please visit the MY HERO web site: http://myhero.com/eldon.
