Now available the special VR Accreditation

for online access to Venice VR Expanded (1 – 19 September 2021)

the Virtual Reality section of the Venice Film Festival

Following the success in 2020, this year worldwide audiences may again have online access, from September 1^st to 19^th, to Venice VR Expanded, the Virtual Reality section of the Venice International Film Festival of La Biennale di Venezia.

The Venice Film Festival was one of the first major film festivals to dedicate significant and quality space to Virtual Reality and the first to organize a competition, to encourage the experience of this new rapidly evolving art form.

The international public (ages 18 and over) interested in Venice VR Expanded may now apply for the dedicated VR Accreditation on the website www.labiennale.org, at the following link: https://web9.labiennale.org/vr/.

To receive the VR Accreditation, users must register and pay the fee of € 100 online on or before September 10^th. After acquiring VR Accreditation, they can access the content using their personal codes, which they will find on the Boxol digital platform that they can access after creating a personal Boxol account.

The Venice VR Expanded section of the 78^th Venice International Film Festival will present a total of thirty-seven projects (eight 360° videos, twenty-five VR projects, four VR projects with reservation required) from twenty-three countries, divided as follows:

• 24 projects in Competition
• 11 projects Out of Competition – Best of Venice VR Expanded
• 1 project from the Biennale College Cinema – VR
• 1 Special Event – Out of Competition

Furthermore, a selection of 34 virtual worlds and 5 Special Events will be presented in the VRChat Worlds Gallery, accessible through the Venice VR Expanded 2021 world on VRChat.

The Venice VR Expanded selection from the 78^th Venice International Film Festival may be experienced online thanks to the digital platforms of our partners HTC Viveport and Facebook’s Oculus, using PCVR and Oculus Quest headsets.

How to access the projects in Venice VR Expanded

The Venice VR Expanded projects may be viewed as follows:

• HTC Viveport: for 6DoF projects compatible with PCVR headsets (17) and 360° videos (6)
• Oculus Store: for 6DoF projects compatible with Oculus Quest headsets (9) and 360° videos (6)
• VRChat: for VRChat projects (2) and performances (2)
• Dedicated platform for the VR performance “Bedlam” (1)
• iOS/Android app for the immersive audio project “Knot: A Trilogy” (1)

Headsets

The Venice VR Expanded selection is compatible with the following devices:

• VR headsets with cable, compatible with Viveport: Vive Pro / Vive Pro 2 and Oculus Rift / Rift S / Oculus Quest w/Link.
• Oculus Quest 1 or 2 headsets to view the projects available through the Oculus Store.
• iOS 10.0 and later / Android 6.0 or later for the immersive audio project “Knot: A Trilogy”

VRChat

The Venice VR Expanded 2021 world on VRChat is where all our social events, meetings, lectures and parties will be held, and where accredited guests will have the opportunity to explore 34 VRChat worlds included in the VRChat Worlds Gallery selection (for the first time part of Festival). The Venice VR Expanded 2021 world features:

• The Exhibition Hall leading to the worlds that present the 37 projects of the official selection
• The Amphitheatre to see the 2D screenings and the meetings with the authors titled “Meet the Creator”
• The Piazza, the main meeting point for the events
• The City, which contains the 34 VRChat worlds of the VRChat Worlds Gallery
• The Tower, which contains an exhibition of avatars.
