La Biennale di Venezia congratulates the authors and production teams of the many films presented at the Venice International Film Festival shortlisted for the Oscars, for which the awards ceremony will be held next April 25th. In particular, in the Documentary Feature category, the list includes Notturno by Gianfranco Rosi (Italy, in Competition at the Venice Film Festival 2020) and Collective by Alexander Nanau (Romania, Out of Competition at the Venice Film Festival 2019).
In the International Feature Film category, 7 films (of which 3 from the Orizzonti section) out of the 15 films on the shortlist were presented at the Venice Film Festival: · Collective by Alexander Nanau (Romania, Out of Competition 2019) · Dear Comrades! by Andrey Konchalovskiy (Russia, Competition 2020, Special Jury Prize) · La Llorona by Jayro Bustamante (Guatemala, Giornate degli autori 2019) · The Man Who Sold His Skin by Kaouther Ben Hania (Tunisia, Orizzonti 2020, Orizzonti Award for Best Actor to Yahya Mahayni) · Night of the Kings by Philippe Lacôte (Ivory Coast, Orizzonti 2020) · Quo Vadis, Aida? by Jasmila Zbanic (Bosnia and Herzegovina, Competition 2020) · Sun Children by Majid Majidi (Iran, Orizzonti 2020, Marcello Mastroianni Award to Rouhollah Zamani)
La Biennale wishes to congratulate the authors and production team of One Night in Miami by Regina King, shortlisted in the Music (Original Song) and Makeup and Hairstyling categories, and The Human Voice by Pedro Almodovar, in the Live-Action Short Film category, both shown Out of Competition at the Venice Film Festival 2020, and wishes the best of luck to the other Italian films included in the various shortlists, Pinocchio by Matteo Garrone and La vita davanti a sé by Edoardo Ponti.
The 78th Venice International Film Festival, directed by Alberto Barbera and organized by La Biennale di Venezia, will take place from September 1st to 11th 2021.
