Martin Scorsese Masterclass in Cannes

Locarno75 is (also) online

With Swisscom, MUBI, Play Suisse and play.locarnofestival.ch, the Locarno Film Festival widens its offer to the public that won’t be able to attend the event physically, with an online selection of competition films and gems from the past.

Besides the ones in Piazza Grande and the city cinemas, the Locarno Film Festival will also be on the screens, monitors and television sets of the audience that won’t be able to come to Locarno. With one eye on the competition and one in the past, Locarno75 will offer, via a wide array of platforms and partnerships, a selection of films that best sum up the Festival’s spirit. From the passion for short films to the focus on distant filmmaking countries, from first features among which to discover future talents to those who have already taken their first steps, last year in Locarno.

PLAY LOCARNO FESTIVAL

This year, the Festival’s platform will serve as a window looking over the other side of the world. Thanks to play.locarnofestival.ch, you will be able to watch the entire Open Doors short film selection, coming from Central America and the Caribbean. Worldwide, and free of charge, ten shorts from Cuba, Grenada, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Jamaica, Honduras, Nicaragua, Guatemala, the Dominican Republic and Haiti, for a first serving of the new three-year focus Open Doors is devoting to Latin American and the Caribbean.

Swisscom blue Play

The blue Play platform, active for all those with a blue TV (M, L or X) or Swisscom subscription, will grant its audience a deep dive into the selection vying for the Locarno75 Pardo. The platform will feature some of the films competing in the Concorso Cineasti del presente. Swiss audiences will be able to see Nossa Senhora da Loja do Chinês (Our Lady of the Chinese Shop) by Ery Claver, É Noite na América (It is Night in America) by Ana Vaz, Love Dog by Bianca Lucas, Astrakan by David Depesseville, and How is Katia? (Yak Tam Katia?) by Christina Tynkevych. Additionally, blue TV will take a look back, with some of the films that are part of the event’s history, as well as a selection of titles tied to the Locarno75 honorees.

MUBI

Memories of Locarno74, going back one year, will be part of MUBI, with a selection of last summer’s program. Subscribers will get to watch, or rewatch, L’Été l’éternité (Our Eternal Summer, Concorso Cineasti del presente 2021) by Émilie Aussel, Agia Emy (Holy Emy, Concorso cineasti del presente 2021) by Araceli Lemos, Squish! (Pardi di domani 2021) by Tulapop Saenjaroen, and Ammansa Tiafi (Public Toilet Africa, Concorso cineasti del presente 2021) by Kofi Ofosu-Yeboah.

Play Suisse

To relive the history of the Festival, one can also enjoy the storytelling of journalist and author Lorenzo Buccella with Locarno Confidential. The documentary, commissioned by RSI to celebrate Locarno75, produced by Michael Beltrami and directed by Chris Guidotti, will be available on SRG SSR’s streaming platform Play Suisse, starting August 3.
