Winners of the Golden Calves Best of Dutch film

The winners of the Golden Calves, the Grand Prize of the Dutch Film Festival 2008

Tonight, the Golden Calves, the Grand Prize of the Dutch film 2008, were awarded during the Dutch Film Gala. The presentation, hosted by Viggo Waas and Peter Heerschop, was broadcast live on the Internet on http://www.filmfestival.nl/festivaltv/festival-tv-2008. The Dutch Film Gala was the conclusion of the 28th Netherlands Film Festival, which pulled in a record number of 145,000 visitors. The NOFF and Festival TV attracted 1.5 million visitors.

The Golden Calves jury 2008 – consisting of Nanouk Leopold, Britta Hosman, Albert ter Heerdt, Petra Goedings, Roberto van Eijden, Jan Vandierendonck and Frans Afman (chairman) – awarded Golden Calves in seventeen categories: Best Short Film, Best Short Documentary, Best Long Documentary, Best TV Film, Best Production Design, Best Photography, Best Sound Design, Best Editing, Best Score, Best Male Supporting Role, Best Female Supporting Role, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Screenplay, Best Direction, Best Long Feature Film and the Special Jury Award.

The Golden Calf for the Film1 Audience Award was granted to the feature film which was appreciated most highly by festival visitors. The winner of the Film1 Audience Award also clinches an extra cash prize of 10,000 Euro, to be spent on an online media campaign for the winning or a later film.

The Dutch Film Critics Award was also presented tonight. This press prize is awarded by the Circle of Dutch Film Journalists. This year, the jury consisted of Ronald Rovers, Ellen van Slagmaat and Harry Peters. The award is technically supported by Holland Subtitling in the form of a subtitled copy of the winning film or a later film.

VPRO’s Cinema.nl Festival Journal reports on the ceremony from 22.50 tonight on Nederland 2. On Sunday 5 October from 16.00, the digital culture channel Cultura will broadcast the entire Gala. The Dutch Film Gala is available as a live stream on www.filmfestival.nl from 20.00 tonight.
