Winners of the 6th IFF Children's Cinema: Kids Kino wrapped

The day has ended for the Children's Cinema. During the closing gala of the 6th International Children's Film Festival, the winners of two festival competitions were announced: the main and film discoveries. Meet the winners.

PUBLICITY PLEBISCITE

Fern Flower - audience award

The votes of viewers of 23 cinemas are the best film of the Main Competition in the audience poll, the film: Fast and Snows (Racetime), dir. Benoît Godbout!

JURY OF JOURNALISTS composed of: Aleksandra Lubańska-Czubak, Justyna Suchecka, Łukasz Maciejewski

Fern Flower - award from the jury of journalists

For empathic, sensitive and artistically attractive presentation of a story that surprises with its originality and at the same time raises important contemporary cultural and civilization problems of the world of children and adults.

We award the Fern Flower Award to the Latvian-Polish co-production directed by Edmunds Jansons Jakub, Mimmi and talking dogs (Jēkabs, Mimmi un runājošie suņi).

Distinction

For finding an unconventional way to show complicated family relations and the emerging friendship and the problem of loneliness in a captivating summer scenery.

For the film The Unusual Summer with Tess (Mijn bijzonder rare week met Tess) directed by Steven Wouterlood.

CREATOR JURY composed of: Zofia Stanecka, Konrad Dworakowski, Mariusz Palej

Fern Flower - the jury of the creators

for the film Extraordinary summer with Tess (Mijn bijzonder rare week met Tess), dir. Steven Wouterlood

For the richness of the world presented, the depth in terms of the silhouettes of all heroes and recognition of the non-obvious perspective of Sam and Tess.

Distinction

for the film Whole World Romy (Kapsalon Romy), dir. Mischa Kamp

For sensitivity and depth in terms of a difficult topic and for the faith of the creators in the empathy and intelligence of the young recipient.

JURY ECFA (European Children’s Film Association) composed of: Elisa Giovannelli, Joanna Żak, Gert Hermans

Fern Flower - ECFA jury award

The award goes to a film that shows the building of understanding between generations and various social environments with great sensitivity. The excellent directing deserves recognition, which brings out the subtle nuances of the relationship between the characters, and the play of actors who through gestures and glances express the state of mind of their characters. The director was able to convey the heart of a difficult story without having to explain everything through words. This tale of dealing with loss and what is to come has deeply touched us and at the same time made a huge impression on us from the technical side. Thus, the ECFA Award at the 6th International Film Festival Children's Cinema receives the whole world Roma (Kapsalon Romy) Mischa Kamp.

Distinction

A special distinction is given to a film that tells the story of a strong heroine and a boy who believes in his wonderful powers. Together they fight for their dreams and future. There is no more topical topic. At a time when children are uniting around the world, this film calls us to strengthen their voice so that it can be heard. So our special distinction goes to Jakub, Mimmi and talking dogs (Jēkabs, Mimmi un runājošie suņi) by Edmunds Janson.

Network of Studio and Local Cinemas

SKSiL Jury Award

Solan and Ludwik - Mission Moon (Månelyst and Flåklypa), dir. Rasmus A. Sivertsen

The extraordinary story of the characters we already know, showing in an accessible and humorless way that not everything we have already planned can be realized. It is worth being persistent to the end. It is also a very interesting, unique stop motion animation.

We recommend the film awarded by us for distribution in the Studio and Local Cinemas Network.

Distinction:

The famous bear invasion to Sicily (La Fameuse Invasion des ours en Sicile), dir. Lorenzo Mattotti

Fast and Snowy (Racetime), dir. Benoît Godbout

DISCOVER JURY composed of: Magda Hueckel, Marta Pajek, Anna Serdiukow

All three films break conventions, look for new forms (stories, visual language, theme).

Fern Flower - an award from the jury of film discoveries

Breaking conventions, spectacular and diverse visual language that allows you to enter the dog's skin. A sense of humor adds lightness to this touching story.

The Fern Flower Award Jury of the film discoveries competition goes to Marona - Dog Story (L’extraordinaire voyage de Marona) dir. Anki Damian.

Distinction

For touching taboos and touching delicate and important topics of puberty. The film about the stage we all go through but we forget about it is severe and stays with us for life.

We are giving the distinction to Daniel (Daniel fait face) directed by Marine Atlan.

This story proves how much impact a document can have. It shows a difficult emotionally and physically journey, thanks to which we can feel what the characters do. It introduces Nepalese culture, awakens curiosity and makes us ready to travel in any form.

The award is given to the film Children of the Snow Land directed by Zara Balfour and Marcus Stephenson.

Kids Kino (Kino Dzieci) is an International Film Festival addressed mainly to the viewers at the age of 4-12 and their families & guardians. From the very begining, the idea behind the festival was to make valuable worthwhile movies available to the general public. All the productions have been carefully selected considering their educational, artistic and production values.

The audience of the Kids Kino International Film Festival has grown to over twenty Polish cities, from the begining of the festival in 2014 till today. The viewers of each edition get acquainted with international productions nominated in the Main Competition that have not been presented to wider distrubition. The entire film program, grouped in sections, is displayed in Warsaw and Wrocław only, while the most important sections, led by the Main Competition movies, are also presented in the remaining eighteen festival cities.

The best Kids Film Festival is always chosen by viewers from all over the country. Thanks to the festival, selected films appear on Polish cinema screens, including European and international productions – films, animations, documentaries and series for kids.

We believe that such actions have a significant impact on shaping young viewers as well as on the development of the film production market directed to the young viewers. However, Kids Film Festival is not only about movie screening. Thanks to the workshops and accompanying events, the festival has become an opportunity for meetings and discussion. Kids Film Festival goes beyond the actul week of the festival duration and it is present for the viewers throughout the following year, introducing the best films of the festival to theaters for the following months.
