winners of South Asian 'Text-to-Vote' Campaign

The 3rd Annual South Asian International film Festival (SAIFF) announces the winners of this year's first ever South Asian 'Text-to-Vote' Campaign incorporated exclusively by Verizon Wireless.

Even after the last day of the festival on Sunday, October 8th, 2006, the voting did not stop. Festival goers kept plugging in votes and text messages for their favorite films, resulting in thousands of participants.

The 2006 Verizon Wireless "Test-To-Vote' Winners Are:

Favorite Documentary and Favorite Film Overall: 'The Widow Colony' by director Harpreet Kaur. The film recounts the events of the 1984 anti-Sikh massacre in India using the voices of the widows who survived.

Favorite Short: '7.6' which captured director Ali Khan's mission to bring art to Pakistani children after the 2005 Earthquake.

Favorite Feature: Tanuja Chandra's 'Hope and a Little Sugar', a film that explored the array of emotions associated with September 11th through a South Asian lens.
