Warsaw fest presentation

20th Warsaw International Film Festival (WIFF) will take place on 7-18
October, 2004. The Festival's motto is "Films about people and for people".

The opening will be the European festival premiere of Czech comedy "Up and
Down" by Oscar-nominated Jan Hrebejk (Divided We Fall, Pupendo, Cosy Dens).

Fourteen first and second features will take part in the "New Films New
Directors" International Competition. The Jury members - directors only -
are Fridrik Thor Fridrikson (Iceland, Jury President), Mirjam Kubescha
(Germany; she will have her mini-retro in Warsaw), Emily Young (UK),
Radivoje Andric (Serbia and Montenegro), and Lukasz Barczyk (Poland).

The director of the winning film will receive Grand Prix Nescafe and 5 000
euro, while the author of best script will get the award funded by HBO.

Over 100 feature films (all of them Polish premieres) are divided into the
following sections: New Films, New Directors - Competition, New Films, New
Directors - Out of Competition, German Panorama - organized in collaboration
with German Films, HBO Presents, The Master's Touch, Discoveries, The World
Today - Documentary Features, Music Forever - Documentary Features,
Premieres 2004/2005.

All films presented at Warsaw International Film Festival take part in
Audience Vote.

The festival program will be announced at the press conference on Tuesday,
September 21, 2004 at noon at Traffic Club, 25 Bracka St. 25 in Warsaw, and
on the WIFF website www.wff.pl .

This year the professional dimension of the festival will be significantly
expanded, and will include:

1. Official Board Meeting of the European Film Academy.

2. The 6th edition of Warsaw Screenings, where the programmers of
international film festivals will have the chance to watch new Polish films.

3. Meeting of CentEast - The Alliance of Central and Eastern European Film
Festivals, a network of key film events from the region.

4. SCENE insiders - workshops for professionals who work with scriptwriters
(directors, producers, editors) organized by London-based The Script Factory
and The Andrzej Wajda Master School of Film Directing.

5. Workshops for film journalists, given by world class specialists from
professional movie magazines (Variety, Screen International and Moving
Pictures) and FIPRESCI (International Federation of Film Critics).

6. Open workshops for everyone interested in film editing, organized by
Polish Editors Association.

Over four hundred professionals and journalists are expected to attend. The
festival will take place on six screens in the centre of Warsaw - Relax,
Luna (2 screens), Silver Screen (2 screens) and Iluzjon. Pre-festival ticket
sales will commence on Friday, October 1, 2004 in Traffic Club, Bracka Str.
25. Traffic Club will also host open press conferences (all festival days at
11 a.m.).
