The Third Morelia International Film Festival awards

The Third Morelia International Film Festival drew to close with a ceremony conducted by Patrick Oliver. Salvador López Orduña, Municipal President of Morelia, gave a brief speech, along with Lázaro Cárdenas Batel, Governor of the State of Michoacán. Alejandro Ramírez and Cuauhtemoc Cardenas Batel also said a few words; Daniela Michel closed the ceremony with her final remarks.

The Governor said he felt proud of this year’s program: “It was an honor to show the best of Mexican and world cinema. This is a solid project that will go on for many years, for the benefit of films, for the benefit of all.”

The prizes were presented by: José María Escriche, founder of the Huesca Film Festival Foundation and juror at the FICM, gave the prizes for Best Short film and Best Michoacan Script; actor Luis Felipe Tovar presented the Audience Awards; Claudia Ramírez gave the Titra Award; Carlos Gutiérrez, juror, presented the Best Documentary from Michoacan Award; and finally, actress Rocío Verdejo was in charge of presenting the Cannon XL2 and Morelia Lab Awards.

WINNERS:
Best Screenplay for Short Film (Michoacan, 2005)
- “La Caza”, written by Luz Gabriela Leveroni Castro.

Best Short Films Michoacan:
- “Cheranásticotown” - Dante Cerano
- Honorary Mention: “Últimas memorias vivas” - Antonio Zirión
“Mensajero de los dioses” - Pavel Rodríguez

Audience Awards
- Best International Feature Film: “Oliver Twist” - Roman Polanski.
- Best Mexican Feature Film: “Un día más” - María Inés Roqué.
- Best Documentary in Competition: “Muxes, auténticas, intrépidas, buscadoras de peligro” - Alejandra Islas.
- Best Short from Michoacan: “Bel morir” - Jesús Pimintel.
- Best Short film in Competition: “Con la cola entre las patas” - Carlos Sama ‘Hari’.

Documentaries in Competition
- Special Titra Award: “Hasta el último trago… corazón!” - Beto Gómez.
- Best Mexican Documentary: “Toro Negro” - Carlos Armella y Pedro González Rubio
- Honorary Mention: “Al otro lado” - Natalia Almada

- Special Cinematography Award - Federico Barbabosa, “Casi nunca pasa nada” - Juan Carlos Martín.
- Honorary Mention, Short Documentary Film: “El charro misterioso” - José Manuel Cravioto Aguillón.
