The 37th Gdynia Film Festival has officially ended with Awards

37. GDYNIA FILM FESTIVAL. POLISH FILM FESTIVAL IN POLAND (7th – 12th of May) ANNOUNCED ITS AWARDS.

 

The 37th Gdynia Film Festival has officially ended. At the Closing Ceremony the “Golden Lions” Prize was granted to Agnieszka Holland for the film In Darkness. Other award winners included among others Marcin Krzyształowicz, awarded with the “Silver Lions” Prize for Manhunt, Agnieszka Grochowska and Robert Więckiewicz, awarded for the best actress and actor in a leading role in the film In Darkness, Leszek Dawid for You Are God - the best directing debut or second film – and Marcin Kowalczyk for professional acting debut in the same film. The “Platinum Lions” Prize for lifetime achievement was awarded for the first time to filmmakers who are not directors – outstanding cinematographers: Jerzy Wójcik and Witold Sobociński.

VERDICT:

The Jury of the 37th Gdynia Film Festival composed of: Dorota Kędzierzawska – the Chairperson, Caroline Libresco, Ewa Wiśniewska, Stephen Rea, Michał Leszczyłowski, Waldemar Kalinowski, Adam Sikora and Zygmunt Miłoszewski have granted the following awards:

THE GRAND PRIZE "GOLDEN LIONS” for the best film "In Darkness” directed by Agnieszka Holland
THE GRAND PRIZE "GOLDEN LIONS” for the producer of the best film "In Darkness” – Juliusz Machulski
"SILVER LIONS" for the film “Manhunt” directed by Marcin Krzyształowicz
"SILVER LIONS" for the producers of the film “Manhunt” – Małgorzata Jurczak and Krzysztof Grędziński
SPECIAL PRIZE OF THE JURY for the courage in the form and the contents of the film as well as for unique artistic values for the film “Crulic – The Path to Beyond” directed by Anca Damian

INDIVIDUAL AWARDS:

- for Agnieszka Holland for directing of the film “In Darkness”
- for Piotr Trzaskalski and Wojciech Lepianka for the screenplay of the film “My Father’s Bike”
- for Leszek Dawid for directing debut or second film “You Are God”
- for Agnieszka Grochowska as the actress in a leading role in the film “In Darkness”
- for Robert Więckiewicz as the actor in a leading role in the film “In Darkness”
- for Marcin Kowalczyk for professional acting debut in the film “You Are God”
- for Jolanta Dylewska for cinematography in the film “In Darkness”
- for Piotr Dziubek for music in the film “Crulic – The Path to Beyond”
- for Erwin Prib, Katarzyna Sobańska and Marcel Sławiński for art direction in the film “In Darkness”
- for Joanna Kulig as the actress in a supporting role in the film “Elles”
- for Dawid Ogrodnik and Tomasz Schuchardt as the actor in a supporting role in the film “You Are God”
- for Sebastian Włodarczyk and Piotr Witkowski for the sound in the film “Crulic – The Path to Beyond”
- for Wojciech Mrówczyński for editing of the film “Manhunt” and Michał Czarnecki for editing of the film “In Darkness”
- for Katarzyna Lewińska for costumes in the film “Elles” and Katarzyna Lewińska and Jagna Janicka for costumes in the film “In Darkness”
- for Janusz Kaleja for make-up in the film “In Darkness”

SPECIAL STATEMENT OF THE JURY:

The Jury has decided to distinguish the makers of “Secret” and “Aftermath” for exceptional courage in grappling the important subjects which have not been noticed in Polish cinematography before.
