Taipei Film Festival announced official selection “International New Talent Competition” line-up
 
Taipei Film Festival announced the official selection of International New Talent Competition today (May 12). The 12 films selected from all over the world will compete for the Grand Prize and the Special Jury Prize of NT$ 900,000 (US$27000) in total. The winners will be announced at the award ceremony held on June 30.
 
Among the twelve films selected, You Are the Apple of My Eye, a Taiwan production, is a world premiere and Little Sparrows, Skyscraper, Top Floor Left Wing are Asia premieres. Director Yu-Hsiu Camille Chen of Little Sparrows is a native Taiwanese. Though currently working in Australia, she will be joining the Festival with her first direction of a feature film. The other films selected include Return Ticket, a joint work by Taiwan and China teams, Beyond, the first work by Pernilla August, the famed Swedish actress, and Familiar Grounds, premiered in Berlin Film Festival in February.
 
To encourage production and creativity of young directors, the Taipei Film Festival made a long-term commitment to provide an open platform for the film industry to interact and thrive. The International New Talent Competition has been held for several years and is open only to directors who have directed no more than two feature-length films worldwide. Through the collaboration and competition among the international talents, the Taiwanese filmmakers are deeply inspired and the local audience will have a chance to experience the latest works from the international film industry. The directors or leading production team members of the twelve selections are invited to visit Taipei during the Festival to meet with the audience as well as exchanging ideas and views with the local filmmakers.
