St Kilda Film Festival awards

“AND ONE STEP BACK” takes a huge leap forward as Winner – Best Short Film

Winners of the 21st St Kilda Film Festival were announced at the George Cinemas, the culmination of six days of over 150 short film screenings, attended by filmmakers, film industry producers, luminaries and film lovers.
BEST SHORT FILM and the $10,000 cash award went to And One Step Back, written and directed by Mark Robinson. The film also won the EAT CARPET SBS AWARD and
BEST ACHIEVEMENT IN CINEMATOGRAPHY for DOP Yen Ooi.

Adam Elliot also has another award to sit next to his Oscar, as Harvie Krumpet won the BEST ANIMATION AWARD Rachel Ward, one of many actors-turned-director in this year’s Festival, won BEST ACHIEVEMENT IN DIRECTION for her short film, Martha’s New Coat, while the BEST NEW DIRECTOR AWARD went to Corrie Jones for his film Victim, which also won an EAT CARPET SBS AWARD, and BEST ACHIEVEMENT IN COMPOSITION. Nash Edgerton’s film, Fuel, won BEST ACHIEVEMENT IN SPECIAL EFFECTS.
Other winners for 2004 include the evocative experimental film, The Projectionist, directed by Michael Bates, winning the FILM VICTORIA CRAFT AWARD; BEST COMEDY went to Clayton Jacobson’s Kenny (Self Proclaimed Scatologist), and Matthew Saville’s Roy Hollsdotter Live won BEST ACHIEVEMENT WITH AN ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY, as well as BEST ACHIEVEMENT IN VIDEO. Kristian Pithie won the BEST FICTION AWARD for his film, Oranges. My Mother Jesus written and directed by Brad McMillan took out Best Achievement in a Student Film, Press Any Button won Best Achievement in Sound Post Production for
Michael McMenomy and Jasmine Gufford. Best Use of Digital Technology went to Teratoma, Best Achievement in Editing to Alice, and Best Documentary went to It’s Like That for Southern Ladies Animation Group.
SoundKILDA Music Video Awards were Little Wonder, directed by Ben Saunders and
performed by Augie March, for BEST MAJOR RECORD COMPANY AWARD. Familyman,
directed by Jonathan Nix, and performed by King Curly, won the BEST INDPENDENT MUSIC VIDEO AWARD.
