Sophie Scholl opens Buenos Aires german fest

SOPHIE SCHOLL – THE FINAL DAYS (SOPHIE SCHOLL – DIE LETZTEN TAGE) will open the Fifth Festival of German Cinema at the Village Recoletas in Buenos Aires on September 1, 2005. Lead actress Julia Jentsch and director Marc Rothemund will be travelling to Argentina to introduce their film in person.

Presenting a total of 34 films in 29 performances, the organiser German Films will be offering a varied and exciting snapshot of contemporary German cinema. The programme includes nine feature films, two documentaries, a TV movie, a family film and 21 shorts.

Apart from the opening film, ONE DAY IN EUROPE will also be introduced in person by director Hannes Stoehr. Other films lined up are: GO FOR ZUCKER! - AN UNORTHODOX COMEDY (ALLES AUF ZUCKER!) by Dani Levy, EDELWEISS PIRATES
(EDELWEISSPIRATEN) by Niko von Glasow, THE EDUKATORS (DIE FETTEN JAHRE SIND
VORBEI) by Hans Weingartner, GHOSTS (GESPENSTER) by Christian Petzold, OFFBEAT (KAMMERFLIMMERN) by Hendrik Hoelzemann, KEBAB CONNECTION by Anno Saul, THE NINTH DAY (DER NEUNTE TAG) by Volker Schloendorff as well as the family film BLIND FLYERS (BLINDGAENGER) by Bernd Sahling. The German documentary will be represented by HELL ON WHEELS (HOELLENTOUR) by Pepe Danquart and RHYTHM IS IT! by Thomas Grube and Enrique Sanchez Lansch. Moreover, the TV movie THE OTHER WOMAN (DIE ANDERE FRAU) by Margarethe von Trotta.

The following films will be shown as supporting films under the banner of ‚Buenos y Breves’ as part of a collaboration with AG Kurzfilm: DER BILDERMACHER by Stefan Hering, MORGENSCHWARM by Thomas Froehlich, HUNDELEBEN by Veit Helmer, SUBWAY SCORE by Alexander Isert, HERR IM HAUS by Gudrun Falke, PROMENADE by Vera Lalyko, EIN OEFFENTLICHES AERGERNIS by Christian Bach, DAS FLOSS by Jan Thuering, PUSTEFIX by Ulrike Grote and QUIÉN ERES TU? by Ruth Olshan. In addition, the German Films short film programme NEXT GENERATION 2005 will be shown.
