Martin Scorsese Masterclass in Cannes

Something Red, definitely red, for Digifest Southwest

Gene Grant had the very good fortune to produce “Something Red,” by Scotty Milder, one of the films that will premiere at The DigiFest SouthWest Film Festival .
Below are some pictures from the shoot and his comments.

It was my first lap producing a film, and I’ll share the hairy details later, but know it was a complete blast. We filmed in Cochiti for a day, and for two days in Budville (just east of Grants), and the last day here in the ABQ. I’d love it if ya’ll come out for the show Saturday. We’ll screen all seven films that were shot this past week (currently being edited…ours looks good indeed in a rough cut) and trust me, you will get your money’s worth!

PICTURE 1
…that’s director Scotty Milder on the left with DP Corey Weintraub getting ready for the next shot on the process trailer out in Cochiti. As you may or may not know, any driving scene is done on one of these trailers in the movies, and we have a guy right here in Albuquerque, Wayne Elliot, who rents one to big productions. He drove the rig for us and we’re incredibly indebted to him.

PICTURE 2
….here’s me with Mary Holyoke, Art Director, Eric Whitmore, Line Producer, and Trevor Crist, Gaffer, about an upcoming setup. Yes, it was frigging hot as hell out in Budville.

PICTURE 3
….nothing like those souvenir shots for Mom. Me and our “zombie,” who was great. It’s not easy being dead! Did I mention this is a horror pic?!

PICTURE 4
….Scotty, Mary and Corey with half a dead guy made by Mary....the best set decorator in the state in my opinion.

PICTURE 5
…this is the Budville gas station we “aged” for the shoot. This place is the real Rt. 66 deal. Quite shockingly, we learned on the second day of shooting at the location that the original owner was murdered on the site (as well as a school teacher) during a robbery, and he’s buried on the property not 50 yards from where we set up our “fake” graveyard scenes. Yikes….

The DigiFest SouthWest Film Festival is this Saturday night, July 19th at 8pm, at the Kiva Auditorium. Seven short films shot in the Albuquerque area over the past week will be screened at a gala premier. It’ll be loud, raucous, thought provoking, laugh inducing and every other emotion in between. In addition, awards will be handed out for best acting, directing, art direction, audience award, and a bunch more, including the now infamous “Palm D’ Grease” for best picture. A great night of entertainment!
