Silver Screen Marvel in Marbella first Fest

The premier of the Marbella International Film Festival 8th and 10th September 2006, proved to be a successful hit by all visitors, performers and participants.

Three days of film screening provided the audiences with the opportunity to view over 45 films from 18 countries, with fantastic response from the critics and members of the public alike.


The fringe program, presented musical performances in classical, folk, rock, pop, swing and jazz, while the dancers offered diverse dance cultures from hip hop, to belly dancing, from flamenco to tango and far beyond.

Other activities which proved to be most popular were the workshops in Screen Writing, Play Acting, Film Making, Lifestyle and Image Making, while the art gallery was attracting audiences for paintings, photography and designer jewellery.

The parties were sell out, the Friday night was a Cabaret Night, “Natalie”, “Wilde Fire” and “My girls” preformed their own individual music to a packed Sui-to at Hotel Puente Romano.

The Fashion show was an evening of style and sophistication in the theme of the old movies.

Finally the glamorous Gala Night Awards Ceremony started to the music of Marbella Big Band, on Sunday 10th September 2006, the nominations and awards were presented by distinguished members of the Film and TV industry.

The nominations were for the following categories:

Best Animation

The nominations were:

a) Broken wire, from Spain, directed by Juan Carlos Mostaza,

b) For a Tango, from UK, directed by Gabriele Zucchelli

c) Photocopier, from UK, directed by Frank Mansfield.



The winner was from Spain with Broken wire



Best Documentary

The nominations were:

a) Than 1000 words, from Germany, directed by Solo Avital

b) Dancing for Oliver, from UK, directed by Suzanne Gielgud

c) More The Samaritan, from Israel, directed by Sergey Grankin



The Winner was from the UK with Dancing for Oliver



Best Feature

The nominations were

a) Flowers, from Japan, director Tatsumi Yuichiro

b) Towards the Sunset, from Iran, Director Iraj Emami

c) The Way Back Home, from USA, director Reza Badiyi



The winner was Towards the Sunset from Iran.



Best Short Film

The nominations were:

a) The clap from UK, director Geoff Lindsey

b) The Young Girl, from Finland, director Fabian Giessler

c) A different love Song, from Israel, director Uri Bar-on

d) Greta May, from UK, director Clifford Thurlow



The joint winners were “The Clap” and “A different love song”



The Festival was attended by International film makers, producers, distributors, artists and local dignitaries, as well as members of the public. A number of films were sold to distributors and a few of the bands singed contracts for film soundtracks other performances.



The organisers were heartened by the positive support from all sections of the industry and are proud to announce that they intend to take the Marbella International film festival on a world tour in preparation of the next year’s festival.
