San Diego Teen Producers Project

Rick will join the MEDIA ARTS CENTER SAN DIEGO in celebrating the achievements of the Teen Producers Project students over the past year. The evening will prove to be a blast with Rick's creative humor and Latin flair!
Not only does Rick's uplifting spirit make his addition to the event something to celebrate, but also his ongoing success and award-winning work in film, television, theatre and Broadway makes him a phenomenal role model for our students who are looking to continue their education in the media field.
Rick is a true pioneer of comedy and an innovator of humor within the U.S. as well as internationally. He was honored twice by Hispanic Magazine as one of the '100 Most Influential Latinos in America.' Most notably, his writing credits include LATINOLOGUES on Broadway, his newest comedic stage play SWEET 15, and groundbreaking television comedies such as MAD TV and IN LIVING COLOR.
With numerous productions of his work produced at venues across the country, Najera is one of the most produced Latino playwrights in the country. He recently completed a feature film entitled 'Nothing Like the Holidays' starring John Leguizamo, Debra Messing, Freddy Rodriguez, and Luis Guzman. The film is out in theaters November 21rst.
Since 2001, the Teen Producers Project has helped convert scores of at-risk youth into motivated young film producers. The program has helped them to create more than 400 short films that document their lives and their communities. These young filmmakers also learn the practical skills associated with multimedia production and build self-esteem while experiencing the thrill of creating something tangible.
