Martin Scorsese Masterclass in Cannes

Salisbury International Arts Festival

Salisbury International Arts Festival (23 May – 8 June 2008) will exclusively feature African films this year, showcasing a mixture of ground breaking, classic and new releases. Most will be accompanied by introductions and Q&A’s with film makers and discussion groups led by the Festivals film programmer Patrick Bliss.

Highlights include rare screenings of the critically acclaimed African classics Yeelen and Black Girl, both of which will be introduced by one of the country's leading experts in African cinema.

Director Andy Jones will answer questions about As Old As My Tongue the first of a double bill of world music documentaries. His film tells fascinating story of iconic Tanzanian musician Bi Kidude who is now well into her 90s and still touring. We are also pleased to have director Richard Pakleepa in attendance to talk about his documentary Angola: Saudades from the One who Loves You, a beautiful, lyrical trip around this war torn country.

Recent African releases include the awe-inspiring Son of Man, hilarious road movie Bunny Chow and Daratt a contemplative, parable like tale from Chad. Two films, Masai: The Rain Warriors and The Wooden Camera will tour local villages.

We will also be participating in the Co-op Young Filmmakers Festival by screening award winning short films before some of our main features.
