Rotterdam young people’s jury awards GLUE by Alexis Dos Santos

Argentinean filmmaker Alexis Dos Santos was honoured for his film GLUE (GLUE (HISTORIA ADOLESCENTE EN MEDIO DE LA NADA) February 2, 2006 at the International Film Festival Rotterdam 2006 by the young people’s jury. The film-maker received the Golden MovieSquad Shield from five 16 up to 20 year old jury members. GLUE saw its world premiere in the Rotterdam film festival as one of the fourteen films in VPRO Tiger Awards Competition and is supported by the IFFR’s Hubert Bals Fund.

Jelle (16), Nienke (19), Nina (20), Ozella (17) and Simon (18) chose GLUE out of seventeen films in official Rotterdam 2006 selection. The award comprises Dutch distribution within the MovieZone educational film programme for young people and 2,000 Euro to be spend on its promotion among young people in The Netherlands.

The jury states: ‘The diversity in style of GLUE cause the spectator, in a very direct way, to share the adventures and emotions of the youthful characters. The jury was touched by the story’s honesty and universal appeal of the coming-of-age theme. In their relationship with each other and the world, the characters cross borders portrayed without judgment by the film-maker. The soundtrack, an essential part of the main character’s lifestyle, is a fine contribution to the atmosphere of the film, completed by the use of desolate locations and beautiful colors.’

MovieSquad is an initiative of the Nederlands Instituut voor Filmeducatie (Dutch Institute for Film Education) in collaboration with the International Film Festival Rotterdam.
