Perspektive Deutsches kino pre fest winners

Pre-festival Laurels: Two Perspektive Deutsches Kino Films
Win Prestigious Awards

Just one day before the beginning of the 54th Berlin International Film Festival, two films from the series Perspektive Deutsches Kino made a big splash in Saarbrücken und Rotterdam: Muxmäuschenstill, actor Marcus Mittermeier’s directing debut, was awarded not only the main award at the “Max Ophüls Prize” film festival for up-and-coming German-language filmmakers in Saarland’s capital last Sunday, but also the Audience Award, the Students Jury Award and the Prize for Best Screenplay. The latter, by the way, was penned by leading actor Jan Henrik Stahlberg.

Only the day before, Unterwegs – a production from Berlin by director Jan Krüger, who comes from Cologne – won the Tiger Award as best newcomer film at the International Film Festival in Rotterdam.

In nine programme slots, Perspektive Deutsches Kino is screening new German films which reflect the present state and the future of young German cinema. Participation at other festivals does not rule out an invitation to this series. “An idea which seems to be working out particularly well this year”, commented Alfred Holighaus, director of the series Perspektive Deutsches Kino. “As in previous years, half the programme consists of world premieres; the other half includes films which have already tried their luck at other festivals. These prizes rank among the most important for the clientele in my section – and fabulously confirm our selection.”

For Max Ophüls Prize-winner Marcus Mittermeier it is a special distinction to be able to take part in the Berlinale: “I’m so pleased the film is returning home. It’s set in Berlin – so of course it makes me extremely happy and proud to be able to present Muxmäuschenstill at the Berlinale.”
