NYC rural route festival begins this friday

THE ANNUAL NYC RURAL ROUTE FILM FESTIVAL CELEBRATES 5TH ANNIVERSARY!!! JULY 20-22 @ Anthology Film Archives in Manhattan's East Village

Hick films from Sweden, Iceland, India, Hungary, Texas, Nicaragua, Georgia, Ukraine, Nevada, Kentucky, Germany, Winnipeg, Iowa, New York, Minnesota, Scotland, Montana, Pennsylvania, Alabama, Michigan, Tennessee, and Lithuania. Music videos from Saddle Creek artists Bright Eyes and Eric Bachmann, plus German techno artist/ornithologist Dominik Eulberg.

Friday, July 20th:
7PM - "Popular Music from Vittula" (Reza Bagher) - NY Premiere - 35mm print! of beautiful Swedish rock 'n roll teen flick 9PM - "Montana and More" shorts program (featuring 35mm prints of Benjamin Gray's "The Hunter" and Mišo Suchý's "Pictograph")

Saturday, July 21st:
1PM - "Stories of the Young 'uns" shorts program - a rural kids show featuring 16mm Jacob Burckhardt's "The Incredible dissappearing Book" - bring Junior and Missy and sneak out to the lobby for a cold PBR fer yerself!
3PM - "Go Organic!" has something for everyone from foodies to environmentalists with films that delve into subjects such as farming ethics, sustainability, Cuban community farms, and the trend of women in farming.
5PM - "Ruby's Town" (Erik McCowan) - awesome doc on TX turkey racing and history of the business! director in for Q&A.
7PM - "Appalshop Archives' Old-Time Hoedown" (w/live music from the Moonshiners) Straight from Kentucky, these three rare documentary/found footage films feature the music of Lee Sexton, Ralph Stanley, Ricky Skaggs, and the "singing coalminer," Nimrod Workman.
9PM - "Motor Away" shorts program (featuring premiere of Christopher Arcella's "Country Doll" + kick ass lawnmower racin', truck drivin', and tractor pull movies!

Sunday, July 22nd:
3PM - "Post-Peasant International" (35mm print of Joel Palombo's "Milk & Opium" + Astrid Bussink's "The Angelmakers") - double feature of neo-real fiction coming of age tale of Indian desert musician + doc. on Hugarian village women poisonin' their husbands!
5PM - "Homecoming" (Charlene Gilbert) award-winnig feature personal doc. on black land ownership and farming in the south 7PM - "Huldufolk 102" (Nisha Inalsingh) - NY Premiere of beautiful/hilarious doc on Icelandic popular belief in elves and faeries - Q&A w/director 9PM - "Lights are on, but Nobody's Home" shorts program takes an alternate route, presenting a series of short art films about sense of home and artificial vs. natural light (fun, world class art stuff here, folks!)
