After months of diligent endeavors to unearth all the Northwest filmmakers with new and exciting work, The Northwest Film & Video Festival, presented by the Northwest Film Center, received over 350 submissions from moving image artists peppered across the region. The theme of this year's Festival "Film Made Me Do It" draws on the sometimes heroic, sometimes pathetic lengths to which filmmakers must often travel in order to pursue their passion of filmmaking.

The Festival begins, Friday, November 10 with a screening at Cinema 21 of outstanding short films, followed by the Opening Night Party just down the street at the Laura Russo Gallery. The Festival will continue through Friday, November 17 at the NW Film Center's Whitsell Auditorium with a full schedule of shorts programs, documentaries and feature films from talented friends and neighbors in the Northwest. Workshops and discussions have also been designed to illuminate the resources available to filmmakers in the Northwest. Closing night, at the Clinton Street Theater, includes a program entitled SHOEGAZER'S CINEMA, curated by Andrew Blubaugh.

For 33 years, the Festival has brought seminal and master works from filmmakers in Alaska, British Columbia, Idaho, Montana, Oregon and Washington-often premiering work that finds great success at Festivals like Sundance and Ann Arbor. A total of 44 films will be screened at this year's Festival including new works from oft-awarded Portland filmmakers such as Jim Blashfield, Chel White, Ryan Jeffery, and Nick Peterson as well as many familiar filmmakers and new voices from throughout the region.

The Northwest Film Center is a regional media arts resource and service organization founded to encourage the study, appreciation, and utilization of the moving image arts, foster their artistic and professional excellence, and to help create a climate in which they might flourish. The Center provides a variety of film and video exhibition, education and information programs primarily directed to the residents of the Northwest.
