New Turks & Caicos fest launches from Cannes

SUN, SAND, SEA AND CINEMA STAR IN PREMIERE TURKS & CAICOS FILM FESTIVAL NOV. 13-20, 2004

Turks and Caicos isn’t just for divers anymore. Filmmakers, movie lovers and industry professionals from all over the globe will descend on the divers’ paradise for the 1st Annual Turks & Caicos International Film Festival & Screenwriting Competition from Nov. 13-20, 2004.

Feature, documentary, short, animated, student, foreign, and Caribbean/Bahamian films will be screened at the 360-seat, state-of-the-art Brayton Hall on Providenciales (or “Provo”), the main island in the Turks & Caicos chain, as well as at several indoor and outdoor venues, including a stunning open-air theater on Grace Bay Beach, the island’s pristine, award-winning 12-mile stretch of powdery white sand.

“Stars like Bruce Willis and Denzel Washington have discovered Turks and Caicos as a great vacation spot,” said festival director Geoffrey Williams. “Now we’re enabling others to discover it as a destination for great films as well.”

Festival highlights include U.S. and world premieres of independent and studio films, gala opening- and closing-night events, yacht parties, question-and-answer sessions with filmmakers, and educational seminars hosted by industry professionals. Jury, audience, and career achievement awards will be presented at the festival’s closing-night gala. Also announced will be the winners of the festival’s debut screenwriting competition.

Filmmakers and screenwriters may learn more about entering their work in the festival by visiting www.filmfestivals.com and www.turksandcaicosfilmfestival.com.

ABOUT TURKS & CAICOS – Located 575 miles southeast of Miami and reachable by non-stop flights from Toronto, New York, Philadelphia, Boston, Charlotte, Atlanta and Miami, the Turks & Caicos Islands have been described as “best undiscovered Caribbean destination,” “best Caribbean beach,” “best beach for romance,” “best snorkeling site,” and “best diving destination” by magazines like Caribbean Travel & Life and Conde Nast Traveler.
