National Board Awards Quills

National
Board of Review of Motion Pictures


December 6, 2000

The
National Board of Review of Motion Pictures named Philip Kaufman's
Quills the top film of 2000. Starring Geoffrey Rush and Kate
Winslet, the film is a story about the life of the Marquis de Sade.
The award for best foreign film went to Ang Lee's Crouching Tiger
Hidden Dragon
(out in US theatres this week), and the Best Director
went to Steven Soderberg for Traffic. Girlfight's
Michelle Rodriguez won the Breakthrough award, and Javier Bardem
won the best actor award for Before Night Falls. The awards
will be presented Jan. 16 at Tavern on the Green restaurant in New
York City.
