Delegate Registration is open for World’s Largest film festival, M.I.F.F. 2008:
Mumbai International Film Festival (M.I.F.F.) for Documentary, Short and Animation films is a prestigious competitive biennial Festival which has now gained recognition on par with renowned International Film Festivals like Leipzig, Berlin, Oberhausen, Cracow, Tampere, etc.
Beginning in 1990 in Mumbai, M.I.F.F. is currently rated as the world’s third largest documentary film festival. M.I.F.F. offers the biggest prize money in this genre of festivals.
The 10th edition of M.I.F.F. is to be held from 3 to 9 February 2008 at the prestigious National Centre for the Performing Arts, Nariman Point Mumbai. The Festival is organized by the Films Division, a media unit of the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, with the active support of the Government of Maharashtra.
If past attendance is any indication, this edition is expected to be attended by more than 5000 delegates from various parts of the globe. M.I.F.F. 2006 was attended by more than 4500 delegates from India and abroad.
For the forthcoming edition, 228 films were received from 37 countries for the International competition, and 543 films have been entered in the Indian Competition Section. The selection process is over and the results have been declared and also uploaded on our website www.miffindia.in . The concerned Directors have been informed by Email as well as Speed Post. In the International section, 44 films have been selected for the Competition section and 10 films for the Special Screening (Non-competition section). Whereas in the Indian section; 54 films will be screened in the Competition section and 13 films in the Special Screening section.
Apart from competition sections, there will be Retrospective and Special package, Seminars and Open Forum during M.I.F.F. 2008.

RETROSPECTIVE, SPECIAL PACKAGES & HOMAGE, M.I.F.F. 2008
1. SOUTH AFRICA – FROM THE MARGINS TO THE CENTRE: A Special Package of films from South Africa reflecting the socio-cultural and political development of the country since the dismantling of apartheid.
2. SAARC FILMS: Documentary & short fiction films from Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Nepal, Bhutan and Maldives will feature in this special package.
3. FILMS FROM BRAZIL: A Package of Documentary, short and Animation films from Brazil made by prominent filmmaker will be featured in this package presented with the help of the Ministry of Culture, Brazil.
4. OSCAR FILMS: This will feature selected films from some Oscar winning & nominated documentary, short and animation films.
5. JURY'S RETROSPECTIVE: This section comprises films made by the Members of the Jury.
6. CLASSICS: FILMS OF GREAT MASTERS OF DOCUMENTARY FILMS: This section comprises films made by Great Masters like Bert Haanstra, Robert J. Flaherty, Francois Truffaut, Istvan Szabo, Krystof Zanussi and Ritwik Ghatak. This package will be organized with the support of National Film Archive of India.
7. FILM MEMOIR: This section shows biographical films made on great filmmakers like Andrei Tarkovsky, Ingmar Bergman, Satyajit Ray, and Bimal Roy.
8. ADULT CARTOONS: A collection of animation films made for adult viewers by the National Film Board of Canada.
9. FILMS ON SECOND WORLD WAR: This package comprises rarest film records of the Indian troops in action at various part of the world during Second World War. This will also feature the battle of Britain, Russia and other major incidents of that period. This package is being organized with the help of the Armed Forces Film & Photo Division, Delhi.
10. FILMS FROM NORTH-EAST INDIA: Films from all the eight states of the entire North-East of India including Sikkim, reflecting the lives and socio-cultural and political milieu of the people will be screened.
11. FILMS FROM JAMMU & KASHMIR: This special package of films will depict various aspects of the state through the eyes of the filmmakers from Jammu & Kashmir.
12. GLIMPSES OF FILMS DIVISION: This section will showcase films on the entire spectrum of development of India made by directors of the Films Division since its inception in 1948.
13. EXPRESION en CORTO: This package will comprise of best of short films which have been part of the Expresion en Corto Festival in Mexico.
14. HOMAGE: Films Division will pay tribute to the filmmakers who passed away in the recent past.
