Menahem GOLAN Jury member of the Official Competition CAMERA 300

The International Jury of the Official Competition CAMERA 300 at the 29th International Cinematographers’ Film Festival MANAKI BROTHERS will be composed of the following members:

Christian BERGER, Cinematographer (Austria) – President of the Jury

He is one of the leading Austrian cinematographers, also working as director, writer, producer, actor and professor at the Vienna Film Academy. He became world wide famous by working with the leading Austrian director Michael Haneke. He developed the new CINE REFLECT LIGHTING SYSTEM Berger-Bartenbach and employed it for the first time in both Haneke’s films: HIDDEN and THE PIANO TEACHER. In 1973 he founded his own production Company TTV Film when had an extensive work as a director.

Menahem GOLAN, Producer (Israel) - Member of the Jury

One of the most productive film producers in Hollywood with more than 250 films that make him an absolute champion in the film history. He started his career as youngest directors in the native Israel. In 1958 Golan went to USA to study film at Columbia University as well as New York City College. He then joined the producer Roger Corman as an assistant to Francis Coppola. With his cousin Yoram Globus he founded the Production Company CANNON FILMS (Number One independent Company in Hollywood). Over the years Golan produced and directed dozens and dozens films that become successful worldwide, winning festival awards and several Oscar Nominations.

Stole POPOV, Director (Republic of Macedonia) – Member of the Jury

He is one of the leading and most awarded Macedonian Director. He has directed very successful short documentaries such: FIRE (a candidate for Oscar in 1974) and DAE (1979, Gold Medal in Belgrade, Grand Prix in Oberhausen and Nominated for an Oscar in 1980). His feature documentary AUSTRALIA, AUSTRALIA was also candidate for Oscar in 1976. His long feature films are also very successful: RED HORSE (1982, awarded at the festivals in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Belgrade and Pula); HAPPY NEW ’49 (1986, Golden Arena in Pula, Yugoslav candidate for the Foreign Oscar and participated in the Competition of San Sebastian); TATTOO (1991, entered among 9 best European FILMS FOR Felix Award and was Macedonian candidate for the Foreign Oscar). Works as Professor of Directing at FDU / Faculty of Drama Arts in Skopje.

Sue GIBSON, Cinematographer (UK) - Member of the Jury

After graduating from the National Film School in 1981, she became a cinematographer, working in LA, New York, Paris, London, South Africa and Russia, receiving a lot of recognition. Her first Feature Film was HEAR MY SONG directed by Peter Chelsom in 1989 followed by SECRET FRIENDS in 1990, the last film directed by Dennis Potter, which won her an Evening Standard Film Award in 1992. Since then she has photographed several more successful features including Mrs. DALLOWAY, LONDINIUM, THE SEARCH FOR JOHN GISSING and Mrs. CALDICOT’S CABBAGE WAR.
Elected in 1992, Sue was the first woman to be invited to join the BSC/British Society of Cinematographers. In 2004 she joined the Board of Governors and was elected President of the Society in 2008.

Ivan FENYO, Actor (Hungary) - Member of the Jury

Born on June 15th, 1979 in Budapest, he is one of the most promising and most talented young Hungarian film actors. Graduated from the Budapest Film Academy since then he is engaged in many theatrical roles including Moliere’s “Tartuffe”, Dostoyevsky’s “The Idiot” or in the contemporary drama of the playwright Peter Eszterhazy SHE LOVES ME. He made his film debut in Peter Gothar’s 2003 film HUNGARIAN BEAUTY, followed by Krisztina Deak’s movie WHO THE HELL’S BONNIE AND CLYDE? And then in the war movie JARHEAD directed by Sam Mendes, in the role of Pinko.
