Leipzig Festival Awards "Before Flying Back to the Earth"

The prizes of the 48th International Leipzig Festival for Documentary and Animated Film were awarded on Saturday evening in Leipzig. The main prizes of the festival went to "Before Flying Back to the Earth" by Arunas Matelis, Lithuania (Golden Dove for the best long documentary); "For a Miracle" by Jarek Sztandera, Poland (Golden Dove for the best short documentary); "Mississippi" by Arash T. Riahi, Austria (Golden Dove for the best animated film); "The North Star" by Erkko Lyytinen, Finland (Talent-Dove of the Media Foundation of the Sparkasse Leipzig) and "Dancing with Myself" by Judith Keil and Antje Kruska, Germany (Discovery Channel Film Award).

On Saturday, October 8, 10 p.m. you can find an overview of all prize winners on the website of the festival under www.dok-leipzig.de.

The festival ends on Sunday with a day for the public. On this day the prize-winning films as well as other important films of the last days will be shown again.

In 223 events (with repetitions and special shows) the audience and expert visitors could see about 380 films from 50 countries (among them 190 documentary films and 190 animated films) with a total length of 16.568 minutes (this would be 11 days, 12 hours and 8 minutes in one piece). In 2004 there were 190 events, 354 films and 13.114 minutes.

MORE ACCREDITED GUESTS - OFFERS FOR THE INDUSTRY WERE WELL ACCEPTED During the 48th festival the number of expert visitors increased immensely. For the first time DOK Leipzig achieved the record of 1000 accreditations: 1.017 accredited guests from 35 countries in total registered for the festival participation in 2005. The "Final Pitching of the Discovery Campus Master School", the first "DOK Leipzig Co-Production Meeting" as well as the "DOK Summit" Panel Discussions were well-accepted by the German and international representatives of the film industry. Most of the projects presented during the Discovery Campus Pitching encountered great interests with the more than 50 international TV-representatives and got financing promises. The vivid and constructive discussions and the feedback from all participants encourage the festival to continue to develop its profile in this respect in 2006 as well.

DOK ON TOUR: "EPILOGUE" IN FOUR CITIES
DOK Leipzig will make a guest appearance in Dresden, Halle and Weimar with five top-class films from the German and international documentary film competition and will present the latest discoveries of the festival week to the audience of the region: The audience of the Film Theatre Ost in Dresden, of the Cinema theatre Lichthaus in Weimar and of the Lux Cinemas near the Zoo in Halle can look forward to see this special epilogue. DOK Leipzig can also be experienced outside of Central Germany. For the first time there will be DOK on Tour in Berlin: The Festival with an extended program will be guest in the Babylon berlin.mitte from October 17th to 21st.
