Karlovy Vary introduces East of the West Panel

East of the West Panel at the 40th Karlovy Vary IFF

This new initiative from the festival offers a presentation of new films (in postproduction or just before the release) from Central and Eastern Europe, a must for buyers and festival programmers and industry pros who want to have a broad view on films from the East.

SUNDAY JULY 3, 2005
A presentation, intended for top international distributors, sales agents, and festival representatives, of new feature films from Central and Eastern Europe
Over the course of one day, a selection of quality films, in the postproduction phase or just completed will be presented. Premieres of the films are expected by the end of 2006

THE PRESENTATION WILL OFFER DISTRIBUTORS, BUYERS, AND FESTIVAL REPRESENTATIVES:
The opportunity of becoming acquainted far in advance with the region’s complete new film production in a relaxed atmosphere. The event will be held at one location over the course of a single day The opportunity of buying the selected films or of securing them well in advance for their festival programs.
They may also become part of the final phase of a film’s production and thus influence plans for its international release
THE PRESENTATION WILL OFFER PRESENTING PRODUCERS, DISTRIBUTORS, AND SALES AGENTS:
The security that, as the only event of its kind at the Karlovy Vary IFF, it will receive ample attention from those looking for new films
The opportunity of pointing out interesting films to the representatives of top foreign entities, and of thereby arranging well in advance their inclusion in the program of major festivals, or their sale abroad

TENTATIVE PROGRAM:
Part one
Panel – distributors or producers will present their new films (with each film limited to a maximum of 10 minutes, INCLUDING film excerpts)
Part two
In person meetings – after the presentations, adequate space will be provided for meetings and for gaining further necessary information and materials
Part three
Screenings – presented films may be shown as closed industry screenings (35 mm, DVD, Beta SP PAL); they may be shown (whole or in part) on VHS or DVD at the Film Industry Office; films on VHS or DVD can be made available at the Film Industry Office for the duration of the festival, and a list will be kept of which films have been watched
