Japan honors D-Cinema in Skip City

The 2nd SKIP CITY INTERNATIONAL D-Cinema FESTIVAL 2005 will be held from July 16 (Sat.) to July 24 (Sun.) in 2005 in the SKIP CITY. It is an International competitive festival, with its theme being Digital Cinema (D-Cinema), a main trend in filmmaking of the 21st Century. The Festival aims to discover the talent of the next generation, as well as contributing to the propagation and development of new film industry. It is located in SKIP CITY a complex created with the main aim of contributing to the evolution of the audio-visual related industry as a core industry in the modern era. The place consists of industrial, administrative and academic facilities, opened in Kawaguchi City, Saitama, Japan in February 2003.

The festival will have 2 competitive sections. The first one is dedicated to Feature D-Cinema and will be judged by an international jury. Nominated D-Cinema will be selected from theatrical movie entries shot and produced in a digital format in all countries of the world. The second one is dedicated to Short D-Cinema but limited to short movies shot and produced in a digital format in Japan. These short films will be judged by a committee from the Citizen’s Circle to Support the SKIP CITY INT’L D-Cinema FESTIVAL.

The call for entries for the Competition sections (International & Domestic) begins from August and the deadline is January 15, 2005. Nominees will be announced in April 2005. The total amount of the cash prizes will be about 17 million Japanese yen.

The festival will also host a symposium where an international panel of specialists will discuss the worldwide tendencies and future prospects of D-Cinema.

A Digital content market, focusing on D-Cinema will also be held in the SKIP CITY.
