Interview with the 2007 Open Apperture Short Film Festival

Interview with the 2007 Open Apperture Short Film Festival!

B.C.: Hello Scott tell us a few words about your festival, and your background?

S.H.: My name is Scott Hathaway, President elect and Open Apperture veteran. It is my pleasure to introduce to you this year's film festival in all its glory. I have been with the film festival from the very first public meeting two years ago and have had the privilege to watch the festival grow into a respected and well known film festival. This year, as with every year, the festival is going to be bigger and better than the last.

Our initiatives this year include the beginning of the Open Apperture University Club, formally known as the Appalachian Student Filmmaking Organization (ASFO). With the club we hope to connect students with other students in their filmmaking endeavors more so than what can be done with just the film festival. We will beginning a Craigslist kind of board so that we can provide students with the knowledge of who needs help on their films and who wants to give it. The club will hold weekly seminars on filmmaking as well as workshop time for people looking to get extra feedback on their scripts, finished products, or other examples of their work. We will also be using this time to plan for the Film Festival. The Club has a weekly meeting time at 7:00pm every Wednesday evening in the Rhodedendron Room in the Student Union.

The Open Apperture Film Festival also announces this year their expected partnership with Withoutabox.com film distribution hub. The partnership will guarantee record numbers of submitted films from all across the globe from all kinds of people not previously familiar with the Open Apperture Film Festival. The partnership is a stepping stone to international fame and renown for the Open Apperture Film Festival.

Furthermore, the Open Apperture Film Festival intends to become a well known partner with the town of Boone and become as much a part of Boone as the University itself. We hope to become synonymous among all residents as a cultural high point and one that should not be missed.

Finally, the 2007 Open Apperture Film Festival plans to bring The Billy Nayer Show and their film American Astronaut to Boone to screen their film, talk about their filmmaking experiences and then put on a show at one of the local venues. It will truly be a night of movies and music. Don't miss it.
