The Freshi Film Festival Rocks at Raleigh Studios
The Freshi Film Festival had fabulous guests, exhibitors and performances that equalled a once in a lifetime experience!
The Freshi Film Festival, the premiere annual film festival for kids under 18, rocked Raleigh Studios this past Saturday.
With the Los Angeles ZooMobile entertaining adults and youth alike, MyBeauty providing make-overs and facials, and the Freshi Roadshow allowing aspiring filmmakers to capture their own experiences on video, how could anyone fail to have FUN!
The day had continuous screenings of films made by youth under 18, with entries from local Los Angeles schools, filmmakers from other states, and even films created in the Freshi Film Camp held recently in Puerto Rico. In addition, there were workshops presented for the whole family: a stunt demonstration by Jason Medbury and Pete Bisson of the Academy of Theatrical Combat, an acting workshop presented by Claire Winters, a voice-over workshop with Tony Gonzales, and a screenwriting workshop hosted by Anne Lower of Final Draft.
After a full day of workshops and screenings, the Freshi Film Festival Awards Show entertained an expectant audience. Beginning with a Screenwriters Showcase, professional actors performed the finalists scripts written by youth as young as 11. Transitioning into the awards show, the audience was entertained by Kev Kenestetic and DMG performing the "Freshi Song." The Awards show itself was jumpstarted by the popular rock group Jewel and Blaire. The audience was further treated to a performance by Reseda High School students, Jeremy Jackson, Nick Hopson, and Rahim Robinson, performing their original award-winning song "Put Ya Shades On." Amongst all the excitement, several awards were presented to students in the elementary, middle, and high school levels (for a complete list of winners, see below).
The 2008 Freshi Film Festival was a huge success, fun for the whole family, and an opportunity to honor the best of youth filmmaking today. Don't miss your chance to enter next year's festival, and stay tuned to all the Freshi news to make sure you don't miss the 2009 Freshi Film Festival!
