On Sunday night, December 4th, HDFEST will present the HDFEST 2005 Deffie Award Ceremony at the Dolby Laboratories' Larry Umlang Presentation Theatre II. The annual HDFEST Deffie Awards recognize achievement in High Definition filmmaking.

HDFEST Screenings

HDFEST Festival screenings include projects created exclusively with HD technology. Presentations include HD documentaries, HD animation, experimental HD movies, HD music videos, HD features and shorts.

Among festival screenings are the Los Angeles Premieres of Stephen Tobolowsky's Birthday Party, directed by Robert Brinkmann, and 2B Perfectly Honest, written and directed by Randel Cole.

Stephen Tobolowsky (Memento and Mississippi Burning) has appeared in more than 150 film and television projects during the last twenty years, making him one of the most prolific actors in Hollywood. In this documentary, filmmakers Robert Brinkmann and Andrew Putschoegl follow Stephen on his birthday and document a performance he gives for the cameras and a group of friends, during which he tells stories about his experiences in Hollywood.

2B Perfectly Honest stars Andrew McCarthy (St. Elmo's Fire and Pretty in Pink) and Adam Trese (40 Days and 40 Nights and Palookaville) as two entrepreneurs who are led on a fun, dangerous, and surreal, modern-day morality tale that unfolds in the streets, minds, and hearts of New York City. The movie also features John Turturro (Barton Fink and The Big Lebowski), and Aida Turturro (The Sopranos).

The feature comedy Bachelorman, directed by John Putch, will also be screened. The film stars Missi Pyle (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Dodgeball a True Underdog Story) and David Deluise (Stargate SG1). David Deluise's character Ted Davis is a playboy who meets his match when Heather a mysterious brunette, moves next door and refuses to fall for anything in Davis' very deep bag of tricks.

Advanced Technology Presentations

In addition to 2K festival screenings and panel discussions on HD technology, HDFEST 2005 Los Angeles will also include cutting-edge presentations on recent high-def developments. The festival will present a series of short movies presented in DivX HD as well as special presentations by DALSA Digital Cinema, Intel and JVC.
