Dear Friends…
Best wishes for the holiday season to all of you! It has been 20 years since the Canadian Film Centre opened its doors to Canada’s finest emerging talent with the support and help of so many of you. I am proud of the many achievements that have been realized over the years. Our alumni are 1,000+ strong with 92% working in their chosen screen industry. They have formed over 50 production companies and are recognized in Canada and around the world.
This 20th anniversary year is both exciting and challenging for the CFC. I know that many of you have heard that the Federal Government’s National Training program was cancelled, which effectively represents an $800,000 loss to our film and television training programs. In addition, the economic downturn has affected the endowed scholarship funds. This year alone the CFC will lose the $200,000 earmarked for residency scholarships.
While the CFC Board and staff are taking a variety of measures to make up for the shortfall, I am writing to ask for your help. Your donation and continued support will help us get through these tough times and continue to launch Canada’s most creative ideas and voices in film, television and new media to the world.
