Golden Calves: Awards for Dutch Cinema,

WINNERS GOLDEN CALVES, THE PRESTIGIOUS AWARD FOR DUTCH CINEMA 2006

Tonight, the Prestigious Awards for Dutch Cinema, the 2006 Golden Calves, were presented during the Dutch Film Gala. The presentations could be seen live on the Internet on www.filmfestival.nl; the VPRO's Cinema.nl Festivaljournaal will report on the ceremony at 23.10 tonight. On Saturday 7 October at 17.00 and on Sunday 8 October at 21.00, the digital culture channel Cultura will broadcast the Gala in its entirety.

The presentation ceremony marked the close of the 26th Netherlands Film Festival, which attracted a total of 118,000 visitors. The first edition of the Netherlands Online Film Festival (NOFF) brought 90,000 unique visitors to the website.

The Golden Calves Jury 2006 - consisting of Esther Bannenberg, Jan van den Berg, Jacqueline de Goeij, Rolf Koot (vice-chairman), Esmé Lammers (chairwoman), Erik Langhout and Wouter Suyderhoud - awarded Golden Calves in seventeen categories: Best Sound Design, Best Editing, Best Production Design, Best Music, Best Photography, Best Short Film, Best Short Documentary, Best Full-Length Documentary, Best TV Drama, Best Male Supporting Role, Best Female Supporting Role, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Script, Best Director, Best Feature Film and the Special Jury Award.

The Golden Calf for the Tiscali Audience Award was presented to the feature that was most appreciated by the festival's audiences. An extra prize of 25,000 euros is attached to the Golden Calf for the Tiscali Audience Award, to be spent on an online media campaign.

The Dutch Film Critics' Award was also presented this evening. This press prize is awarded by the Circle of Dutch Film Journalists (KNF). The jury this year was made up of Pieter van Lierop (GPD), Saskia Legein (TVFilm, Radio M), Mike Peek (NL20), Bregtje Schudel (Vrij Nederland) and Willem Schouten (Sp!ts).
