Global Peace Fest Honors Oscar Arias

First Annual Festival Set To Take Place
DECEMBER 10TH - 14TH AT

LOEWS CINEPLEX UNIVERSAL CITYWALK in ORLANDO, FLORDIA
NOBEL PEACE PRIZE LAUREATE DR. OSCAR ARIAS To be Honored Opening Night Guest

The GLOBAL PEACE FILM FESTIVAL was founded by Shaikh Abdul Taw'ala Ibn Ali Alishtari, President and CEO of GlobalProtector.net, Inc., with the mission of utilizing the power of the moving image to further the goal of peace on earth. The GPFF seeks to create a festival that will reflect a broad definition of peace, based on Dr. Martin Luther King’s statement: "peace is not only the absence of conflict but also the presence of justice." With the GPFF, Shaikh Alishtari along with the Festival's Executive Director, Nina Streich, Festival Director, Carol Taylor and Programmer, Prudence Hill, explore what the struggle for peace means to humanity in all aspects of life. Through the sharing of films and videos, seminars and discussions, on issues of peace, the GPFF will bring diverse voices to be heard from around the world.

Among the topics and issues Festival organizers will present at this premiere event are Arms Build Up and War Reparations, Conflict and Resolution, Environmental Peace, Global and Community Mediation, Interfaith Efforts Towards Peace, Media and its Role in a Democracy, Peace Activism, Protecting Women and Children, and Providing Safe Environments For Innocents and Non-Combatants.

The films will be divided up into the following four thematic areas: War and Peace, Community, Family and The Middle East.

A fifth section will be made up of Films OF Conflict and Resolution (a selection of the films from the 2003 Hamptons International Film Festival, programmed by HIFF). There will also be a section of Shorts.

“Peace is not merely the distant goal that we think but a means by which we arrive at that goal,” MLK, Jr.
