Flake Premiere a success as LIGHTS go up in Jindy!

The 2008 Flake Film Festival officially launched this weekend with the premiere screening held at the Jindabyne Cinema in the NSW Snowy Mountains to a more than impressed audience!

Festival Director, Anthony Trovatello said "We were so excited at how the audience responded to the final 16 films, the line up is a real testament to the great filmmaking talent that this great land and our neighbours over the Tasman have to offer".

To encourage new and unique film productions, the Flake Film Festival selects a different theme each year, the 2008 theme is LIGHT and filmmakers had to somehow include LIGHT in their film. "The filmmakers have done an outstanding job in recognising and representing the theme. LIGHT has been very creatively portrayed in all films, with some films being based around the theme and others popping in a cheeky but clever reference" says Anthony.
Another feature of Flake is the voting system- The audience at the 5 premiere screenings actually vote by ballot for their favourite films across a few of the major categories including BEST FILM - where the winner receives $2000 cash from Rebel Sport. There are already a few early favourites with special mention going to "Half a Horse" by Dean Hewison of New Zealand, "GARY" By Darren Teadale of NSW and "Genesis 5.1" by Andrew Dorn of Victoria.
The festival is now amongst Australia's highest value in cash and prizes, withhe 2008 exceeding $18,000 in filmmakers rewards! "The large cash and prizepool has helped the fest develop into the quality and far reaching film festival that it now is, "This can be seen the high number and quality films that are being made for Flake. We are also receiveing films from all over Australia,NewZealand and even a few international entries which is very encouraging"Anthony goes on to say.
The festival is now in full swing with another 4 screenings of the final films satarting in Cooma this Wednesday 10th, Perisher Thursday 11th, Thredbo Saturday 13th and then back to Jindabyne on Monday 15th September for the final screening, announcement of winners and awards presentation.
Tickets to all screenings are $10 and are available from the venues, Rebel Sport Jindabyne or from the Flake website at www.flakefilmfestival.com but you better be quick as Flake is one of the hottest tickets in town right about now!
