First MIPTV for the new TV Division Director:

Paul Johnson, Director,TV Division, Reed MIDEM

Paul Johnson has joined Reed MIDEM as Director,TV Division working with Pau Zilk.
Paul replaces Rene Perez and comes from from VNU Entertainment Media, where he was European Sales and Marketing Director for The Hollywood Reporter. A 14-year veteran at The Hollywood Reporter, he was responsible for sponsorship, events and advertising at the magazine, and was the driving force behind its foreign language websites slated to launch later this year. During his tenure, THR’s European market share grew significantly, circulation grew six fold and the magazine was VNU’s fastest-growing division of the past decade.
During 1986 to 1989, he held sales positions at Vodaphone/Airtouch and News Corp in the USA.

Paul is very familiar with events and exhibitions, and has attended Reed MIDEM markets for many years. In 2000, along with former Merrill Lynch Europe Deputy Chairman, Paul founded the annual European Media CEO Summit in Cliveden, England. He is a Director of the management committee of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA), former PACT member (UK Producers Guild) and has a clear understanding of new media content creation, rights and distribution.

Paul was born in San Francisco and raised in Dublin, Ireland. He studied for ten years at St. Andrews College in Dublin, and then went on to earn his degree in Mass Communications and Film at the University of California, Berkeley.

Paul has spoken at numerous industry functions and conferences on the worldwide entertainment industry including RAI trade's Cartoon on the Bay in Positano, Italy, the annual European Media CEO Summit where he chaired many of the discussions, MIFA in Annecy, Milia and MIP TV, BAFTA events, PACT events, and several global radio and television programmes worldwide.

Paul is married with one daughter and lives in the country just outside of Paris.
