Film festival Go Short focuses on Dutch talent

For its third edition film festival Go Short will put the spotlight on three talented Dutch directors: Arne Toonen, Hanro Smitsman (winner of the Golden Berlin Bear Award in 2007) and Danyael Sugawara. Also there will be a special selection of stop-motion films and Portuguese shorts. Go Short - International Short Film Festival Nijmegen will take place from 16-20 March 2011 in Nijmegen, The Netherlands.

Dutch talent
The Dutch filmmakers Arne Toonen, Hanro Smitsman and Danyael Sugawara have done several successful features and some impressive short films. Film festival Go Short thought it was about time to put a spotlight these remarkable Dutch talents.
Arne Toonen is well-known for dozens of short films, commercials and music videos. His feature film Dik Trom (2010) recently reached gold status in the Netherlands. Director Hanro Smitsman was awarded the Golden Bear for his short film Contact (2006) at the Berlin International Film Festival. After winning this prestigious award he produced the well received features Skin (2008) and Dusk (2010). Danyael Sugawara’s short films have been broadcasted on national television and The Quiet One (2004) was shown at the film festival Clermont-Ferrand. His first feature film Upstream (2009) was elected best film by the audience at the Netherlands Film Festival.
The three filmmakers will fulfill a central role at Go Short’s third edition.
To add even more Dutch flavour to the festival, the film market will hold an extensive collection of recent short films up to 60 minutes from different academies, institutes, distributors and production companies in The Netherlands.

Stop-motion and Portuguese shorts
Another special program will focus on stop-motion, the popular animation technique. A diverse selection stop-motion films by directors such as Tim Burton, Adam Elliot, Aardman and Jan Svankmayer will be shown, as well as making of videos, commercials and music videos.
Each year, Go Short presents a program containing the best short films from one country. All eyes will be on Portugal, in cooperation with Agência - Portuguese Short Film Agency.

Go Short
Go Short - International Short Film Festival Nijmegen annually showcases the best European short films. For four days, Go Short's visitors are awaited by more than 200 fiction films, animation films, documentaries and art films in theatres, public spaces and online. In total, 1.400 films from 35 countries were submitted. On Saturday 19 March the best films will win the Go Short Awards. Go Short will also organize workshops, lectures, parties and an international film student campus.

The complete program schedule can be found from February 2011 at www.goshort.nl
