Feature film project Milo wins Kodak NPP Development Prize

During the ninth Netherlands Production Platform (NPP), the Kodak NPP Development Prize was awarded to directing and scriptwriting duo Berend and Roel Boorsma and producer San Fu Maltha for the feature film project Milo.

The jury, made up of Marten Rabarts, Sonja Heinen, Louis Machado and Frans Afman, granted the prize to this feature film project because of “the daring and original premise that lays bare the brittle foundation of a fragile family that is kept together by secrets, uncertainties and domestic conspiracies to put a perfect child into a perfect world.” Milo is a psychological drama about a perfectionist man who is traumatised when his son is born with an extreme measure of body hair.

Kodak sponsors the prize of 5,000 Euro to support the further financial development of the new project. The prize is intended for producers focussing on the development and support of author’s films and is granted to a project pitched at the NPP in a lucid and dedicated presentation. The Dutch film projects from the NPP selection were eligible for this award.

Besides Milo, the project Without Limits, presented by Ivo Noorlander from Corrino Entertainment, was also nominated for the Kodak NPP Development Prize. The jury said this year’s choice was the toughest and most intensive one in years: “The Dutch projects are diverse and well matched, with new talents and Oscar-winning veterans pitching them.”

Hans de Weers from Eyeworks Egmond has done great business at the NPP with director Marleen Gorris’ project My Father’s Notebook: “Before the end of the year, we will close the contracts in Berlin with co-producer Joachim von Vietinghoff.” Hans Eijses and Bea de Visser from Anotherfilm also scored a success. The German MBC International will be the sales and distribution agent for director Bea de Visser’s feature film Cold.

The NPP is part of the Holland Film Meeting, which is organised by the Netherlands Film Festival for the twentieth time and will last through Monday 1 October. At this year’s NPP, a total of 9 Dutch and 13 European feature film projects in development are presented to a panel of international producers and financiers.
